Yocada Sponge Mop Review

The floors are going to be dirty. That’s why it’s so important to clean, ideally on a regular basis. If anything, that’s the only way to prevent dirt and grime from accumulating on the surface and that’s definitely not something that you want, especially with the pandemic going on.

The good news is that there are several options when it comes to cleaning the floors. For example, you can use a cloth or a mop. For the purposes of this article, however, we’ll be focusing on the latter. Not only are they easier to use but they’re also more convenient. After all, many of them come with functions that make the task easier. Take spray mops, for instance, they’re great in that you don’t have to carry around a spray bottle with you when you’re cleaning; you can just press a button.

Not all of them are as “fancy”, however. For example, sponge mops tend to be more minimalistic. Don’t let their simple design fool you, though, they work just as well if not better than other mops. In fact, that’s the kind that we’ll be talking about in this post.

More specifically, we’ll be reviewing the Yocada Sponge Mop. How practical is the design? What can you do with it? Is it easy to clean? These are some of the things that we’ll be exploring below!

The Yocada Sponge Mop

Yocada is one of those brands that are only available on Amazon. Given that, you might not have heard of it before. Despite that, however, it seems to be pretty popular, having accumulated hundreds of reviews on the site. Aside from this particular sponge mop, they also sell carpet sweepers, squeegees, and microfiber spray mops.

Product Description: The Yocada Sponge Mop is suitable both for home and commercial use.  Soft and absorbent, it can be used on a variety of surfaces from hardwood to laminate. What’s more, is that it comes with a brush tool that allows you to brush away stains. The handle is also adjustable so you can customize its length based on your height. Plus, it’s easy to wring out with the built-in trigger—all you have to do is press it with your hands and it’ll automatically squeeze the water out of the sponge.

What’s Included

Here are all of the things that you’ll get with the Yocada Sponge Mop.

  • 2 Sponge Heads
  • 1 Iron Pole
  • 1 Squeegee
  • 1 Brush Attachment
  • 1 Instruction Manual

Assembly: The metal pole comes as three parts so you’ll have to put them together. To do that, simply align the pieces and turn them clockwise (turning the pole anticlockwise will allow you the adjust the length). Once you’ve done that, insert the iron clamp on the sponge head into the groove.

Like we said earlier, the pole that it comes with is adjustable. More specifically, it can be adjusted from 42.5” to 52”. That way, you won’t have to bend over awkwardly to reach certain areas.

As for the mop head, it comes with an iron clamp that you can use to attach the sponge. The way it’s designed, you can also use the trigger to wring out the water. In other words, you don’t actually have to touch the sponge to clean it. Also, the mop comes with a brush that you can attach to the head for scrubbing purposes. The same thing goes for the squeegee—you can put it on the base.

In terms of the actual sponges, you get two of them out of the box. Seeing as how you only need to use one at a time, you’ll have an extra for when the first one starts to wear out.

Build Quality of the Yocada Sponge Mop

Quality is something that you want to check for when you’re buying a mop. First things first, the handle—you want it to be made of metal. Ideally, aluminum or stainless steel as they tend to be more durable. As for the body, you want it to be made of high-quality plastic (most are made of plastic nowadays). That way, there will be less of a chance that it’ll break.

How well built is the Yocada Sponge Mop? It’s decent. For one thing, the pole is made of iron. In other words, it shouldn’t snap or break that easily. The rest of the mop, however, including the mop head components are made of plastic. So you’ll want to be careful not to be too rough with it.

In terms of the sponge, we have no major complaints. Not only is it thick, but it comes with a honeycombed design that makes it more absorbent than your average sponge. It’s also washable—just don’t put it in the washing machine as that can end up ruining the material. That is, you want to wash it by hand.

Potential Drawbacks

The Yocada Sponge Mop does have a few potential cons. Here’s what you need to know.

It’s Kind of Heavy

The sponge mop is not the lightest. If anything, it’s a bit on the heavier side, especially when the sponge is soaked with water. Depending on what you’re used to, this might cause your hands to become tired after a while.

The Squeegee Is Difficult to Use

The squeegee is a little tricky to use. For one thing, it attaches at an awkward angle. Once it’s attached to the mop head, it’s also difficult to remove. Not to mention that it kind of makes the mop clunky.

Mop Head Is Rather Small

Make sure to check the dimensions because the mop head isn’t as big as it looks in the pictures. It is, in fact, quite small—about 10 inches in diameter. So it might not be ideal if you have a large area to clean. For small condos, etc, however, it will probably suffice.

Wringing Doesn’t Always Work Well

The wringing system doesn’t always work that well. In some cases, you’ll be left with way too much water on the sponge. If that happens, you’ll have to squeeze out the rest with your hand, which kind of defeats the purpose of having the trigger in the first place.

It Won’t Fit Under Cabinets If You Use the Attachment Tools

The mop won’t fit under cabinets if you attach the scrubber brush or squeegee. You’ll have to physically take it off, which can be a struggle in itself. Not to mention that it’ll add to your cleaning time. Plus, it tends to make a loud sound when you’re pulling it backward.

Not the Best For Stubborn Stains

The sponge mop isn’t the best for stubborn stains. You can maybe get some of it off but the brush tool really isn’t stiff enough for those kinds of messes. It will probably be easier just to use a separate brush or brush for that.

Sponge Isn’t Good For Big Spills

The sponge is absorbent but not to the point where you can use it for big spills (the material is a little “stiff”). What you’ll end up doing is spreading the water around on the floor, which actually makes the situation worse. Here’s a tip—make sure that the sponge isn’t too wet when you’re getting ready to mop.

Does It Clean Well?

At the end of the day, it depends on what you’re cleaning. Are you just giving the floors a quick mop to get rid of dirt and grime? If so, this sponge mop will probably suffice. If you want something for stains or spills, however, you might want to go for something else. Like we said above, the sponge isn’t the best option for those kinds of messes.

And another word of advice—make sure that you vacuum the floor before bringing out the mop. Otherwise, you’ll end up moving loose particles around, which can scratch the surface.

As for the sponge, you want to clean it after each use with soap and water. You can do so easily in a sink or in a washbasin. If anything, the most important thing is to let it dry completely before storing it away. You don’t want to encourage mold or mildew growth by keeping it wet!

Cost and Pricing Information

This particular product sells for $25 on Amazon, which is around the ballpark of most sponge mops. If you’re lucky, you might even be able to take advantage of a 10% off coupon, which they have available from time to time. And for those who are wondering, shipping and returns are free through the site.

For those who are looking for replacement sponges, you can also find them on Amazon. Price-wise, they’re $10 for a pack of two, which works out to be $5 per sponge. Remember, though, they start you off with two so you shouldn’t need to get any extras for at least a few minutes. With that said, it’s always a good idea to have a few extras on hand.

The Yocada Sponge Mop is versatile in that you can use it to clean most floors from laminate to hardwood. Suitable for home and commercial use, it comes with a wringing system that allows you to squeeze water out from the sponge without having to touch it with your hands. On top of that, the handle is fully adjustable so you can customize its length based on your needs. Plus, it comes with a squeegee and brush tool that you can attach to the mop head. Just keep in mind that you’ll have to take it off if you want to clean under cabinets. Also, depending on what you’re used to, you might find the sponge mop to be a little on the heavy side.
