Steam has many uses. For example, you can use it to humidify the air. What else can you do with it? Clean. That’s right, steam is great for sanitizing a variety of surfaces. In fact, it’s able to kill most bacteria and viruses. The best part of all? It doesn’t require anything but water. In other words, you don’t have to rely on potentially harmful chemicals.
And that’s where steam mops come in. Basically, they’re mops that allow you to clean the floor with the power of steam. With the press of a button, you’ll be able to release hot water vapor onto the ground, which will be enough to eliminate germs. Not only that, but the steam will also get rid of any odors that may be present. What kind of floors can you use them on? Sealed hardwood, granite, vinyl, marble, you name it. They might be a bit more expensive than your regular mop, but trust me, they’re worth it.
Thinking of giving these mops a try? Consider the Spraytech Steam Cleaner. Don’t let its small size fool you, it’s packed with plenty of power! Want to know more about how well it works? Then you’ll want to check out our review below.
The Wagner Spraytech Steam Cleaner
Wagner is an industry leader in paint applicators. Some of their products include paint sprayers, steamers, heat guns, rollers, and various other tools. If anything, their steam cleaners, including the one that we’ll be taking a look at today, are designed so that you can clean up easily after painting.
The Wagner 915 Steam Cleaner is a versatile machine that lets you remove dirt and grime with just plain water. Not only is it great for floors, but you can also use it to refresh your showers, toilets, sinks, countertops, even appliances. What’s more, is that it comes with a variety of brushes and attachments. On top of that, it’s fully portable with an easy-to-use wheel design. In other words, you can bring it wherever you need to go; it won’t take up space nor will it be hard to carry.
Here are all the things that you’ll get with the Wagner Spraytech Steam Cleaner.
- 1 Power Steamer
- 1 Window Squeegee
- 1 Floor Cleaning Brush and Cloth
- 2 Extension Tubes
- 1 Measuring Cup and Funnel
- 2 Utility Brushes (one nylon, one brass)
Assembly: The Wagner 915 is super easy to assemble. Basically, you just have to fit the hose onto the body and put on one of the attachments. You can easily get it all done within minutes. There is also an instruction manual that you can refer to.
Like many steam cleaners, the water tank is part of the unit. To fill it up, simply lift the lid and you’ll be able to see the opening; they even give you a measuring cup and funnel so that you can easily pour in the water. Capacity wise, it can hold up to 48oz, which is a lot more than some of the other steam cleaner machines out there.
Like we said earlier, you also get a bunch of different attachments and brushes, which allow you to use the cleaner for different surfaces. For example, you can use the window squeegee attachment to steam and sanitize your windows. They even provide you with two extension tubes for those hard to reach areas.
For those who plan on using it for the floor, you’ll want to attach the floor cleaning brush and cloth. Basically, it’s a mop head that comes wrapped with a towel. Given that, it’s not surprising to know that it is machine washable. In other words, you’ll be able to use it many times before having to throw it out.
Why is build quality so important? Well, for one thing, it determines how long you’ll be able to use the steam cleaner. The last thing that you want is to invest in something that’ll just break after a few weeks. That’s one of the reasons why you want to check out the product in person before making a purchase. That way, you’ll be able to get a better feel for how well it’s made.
As for the Wagner 915, it seems to be of good quality construction. Yes, it’s made out of plastic but the workmanship is better than most steam mops/cleaners. For one thing, it doesn’t seem to be affected by the constant heat. The wheels also move well, which comes in handy when you need to move the steam cleaner from one place to another.
Here’s a tip—get some microfiber towels if you plan on using it for the floor. While it comes with a cloth that you can use with the floor attachment, it isn’t particularly thin nor is it absorbent. The attachments and brushes, however, we have no major issues with.
Every steam cleaner has its cons and the Wagner 915 is no exception. Here’s what you need to know.
The Cord Is Rather Short
The cord for the steam cleaner is fairly short. As you can imagine, this can make cleaning difficult if you’re at a section with no outlets. In other words, you will need an extension cord. Also, the cord is not retractable nor is there a place on the unit for you to wrap it around.
There’s No Water Level Indicator
The way the unit is designed, it’s nearly impossible to know how much water you have left in the tank—there’s no indicator. Given that, there is a possibility that you can burn the unit out by running out of water. It also makes it difficult to know how full it is when you’re filling it up.
The Handle Can Get Quite Hot
The handle can get quite hot when the steam cleaner is on. If anything, this is a construction issue—they could have probably added another layer of insulation. Unfortunately, there’s no way to prevent this so you’ll just have to be careful when you’re holding onto it.
It Takes A While to Heat Up
The Wagner 915 takes a while to heat up—approximately 20 minutes on average. So it’s not really something that you can take out and use right away. Once it’s heated up, there will also be times where the red light will come on, indicating that it has to reheat the water.
The Window Squeegee Doesn’t Work That Well
The window squeegee attachment seems great in theory but it really doesn’t work that well. The main problem is that it tends to spread a lot of water around, which can result in puddles. Some people have also said that theirs came apart while cleaning.
The Tank Cover Is Fragile
The tank cover is made of plastic and is quite fragile; you’ll want to be gentle with it when you’re lifting it up otherwise, it can fall off. At the same time, however, it’s kind of finicky in that it doesn’t always want to come off.
There’s Nowhere to Store the Attachments
The steam cleaner doesn’t come with any onboard storage for the attachments so you’ll have to find a place to store them. The only exception is for the two small brushes—you can place those on the machine.
Does It Clean Well?
The Wagner 915 is a powerful machine with plenty of steam power—so you won’t have much trouble at all when it comes to cleaning and sanitizing. Keep in mind, however, that it does depend on which attachment you’re using. For example, the floor cleaning cloth (the one that you use with the floor pad) isn’t that great. The material is rather thin and not that great at absorbing things. However, it does help to loosen things up, especially with the steam. For the best results, we recommend pairing the floor head with a different type of cloth or towel, preferably one made of microfiber.
And like we said earlier, the window squeegee isn’t the best. So you might not want to get this steam cleaner if that’s your primary motive; there are other tools that are better for the job. For other surfaces (e.g. furniture, cooktops, walls, toilets, sinks, etc), however, it’s fairly effective—you just have to make sure to use the right attachment.
Cost and Pricing Information
The Wagner 915 retails for about $125, which isn’t too bad compared to other steam cleaners, especially since it can be used for various surfaces. If you get it from Amazon, shipping and returns will also be free.
However, you’ll likely have to spend some money on mop pads if you plan on using it to clean and sanitize the floor. The good news is that there are various kinds that you can get from Amazon for cheap—you just have to make sure that the size is right for the floor pad. If you want, you can even grab some from your local store.
Aside from that, all you need is distilled water (tap water is not commended) for the tank and well, that’s fairly cheap.
The Wagner 915 Steam Cleaner is a versatile machine that can be used for a number of things from cooktops to hardwood floors. At the end of the day, it all depends on which attachment you’re using. Capacity-wise, it also holds a fair amount of water so you won’t have to refill it as often as other machines. The only thing is that there’s no water level indicator so you have to be careful when you’re adding water. The window squeegee also isn’t the best so you won’t want to rely on it for your windows. Other than that, however, it’s really not that bad of a cleaner at all.
