TOPPIN Steam Mop Review
Steam cleaners are great in that they allow you to clean without chemicals. All you need is water! You can use them to remove grease, stains, odors, mold, you name it. That’s not all, they’re also effective at killing germs so you can use them to sanitize various surfaces.
Speaking of surfaces, they’re highly versatile and can be used on almost anything. For example, you can use them on clothes, curtains, walls, and stovetops. Of course, they’re great for the floor as well. In fact, they’re safe to use on most materials including tile, linoleum, vinyl, and some forms of hardwood and laminate. And they’re not that expensive either—you can easily snag one for <$100.

The Toppin Steam Mop
Toppin is a household product company that you can find on Amazon (as far as we can tell, their products are not available from any other retailers). Aside from steam mop, which they just released recently, they also sell vacuum cleaners, humidifiers, air purifiers, soap dispensers, and more.
Product Description
The Toppin Steam Mop is designed for chemical-free cleaning and can be used on most sealed floors including tile, marble, vinyl, carpet hardwood, and linoleum. Featuring a power dial, it offers three different steam settings—low, medium, or high. Not only that, but it heats up in only 20 seconds so you won’t have to wait around to use it. Plus, it’s easy to refill with the included measuring cup. The mop pads are also machine washable, which makes them easy to clean and maintain.
What’s In the Box?
Here’s a list of things that are included in the box:
- 1 Steam Mop
- 2 Washable Mop Pads
- 1 Measuring Cup
- 1 Water Tank
- 1 Carpet Glider
Assembly: Insert the handle into the pole; it should click into place with a small amount of pressure. Once it’s secure, attach the bottom of the pole to the base by pushing the tab on the side. Next, attach a reusable pad by aligning it with the mop head.
The steam mop itself is pretty self-explanatory. The power dial is at the bottom above the water tank and there’s a power indicator light at the top. There’s also a cord hook at the back so that you can wrap your cord around the unit. In total, the unit weighs about 4.25 pounds.
And as listed above, it comes with two washable pads (always put one on before turning on the steam mop). When you’re done mopping, you can throw them in the wash with your towels for easy cleaning.
As for the water tank (380ml capacity), it’s incorporated into the mop base (it is not removable). To fill it up, pull open the cap and add water to the “MAX” fill line using the provided measuring cup (make sure that the mop is vertical and not horizontal, otherwise, the water can spill out). You’ll be able to see how much water is left through the clear window at the front. For your safety, always unplug the steam mop before filling/refilling. A full tank should provide you with approximately 15 minutes of steam time. Never use boiling water or chemical liquids such as disinfectant as it can damage the device.
Last but not least, it comes with a carpet glider that you can attach to the mop base. With it, you’ll be able to steam clean carpet and rugs.
Build Quality
There are a few things that you want to look for when you’re shopping for a steam mop. First off, pay attention to the handle. Is it plastic or metal? Obviously, the latter would be better as it’s more durable (aluminum and stainless steel are ideal). Also, check the mop pads. Are they thin or thick? You want something that will be able to absorb the moisture from the water vapor. Finally, the plastic shouldn’t be too thin, otherwise, it can easily crack or break.
How Well Built Is the Toppin Steam Mop?
The Toppin steam mop comes with a metal pole as you can see in the images. The rest of the unit, including the water bottle, mop base, and handle are made of white plastic. Altogether, the mop weighs about four pounds without water.
As for the grey pads, they’re relatively thick and wash up well in the washing machine. Or if you want, you can always wash them by hand.
Pros of the Toppin Steam Mop
Heats Up Quickly: The steam mop heats up very quickly so you won’t have to wait around to use it (the instruction says 20 seconds but it’ll usually be ready in 15).
Mop Head Rotates 180 Degrees: The mop head rotates 180 degrees so you can easily clean those nooks and crannies. Also, it makes it easier to clean behind and around furniture.
Can Be Used On Carpet: Not all steam mops can be used on carpet. The Toppin, however, is an exception as it comes with a carpet glider that you can attach to the bottom. This makes it suitable for those with carpet and rugs at home.
You Can Use Any Cleaner: With the Toppin steam mop, you can pretty much use any cleaning solution. Just pour it into the water tank with the measuring cup and you’re good to go. There’s no need to buy a separate cleaner.
Lightweight: The mop is fairly light weight (about four pounds), which makes it easy to push around the house.
A Few Drawbacks
Here are a few common issues that people have experienced with the Toppin Steam Mop.
Small Water Tank
The water tank isn’t very big, which is to be expected seeing as how it’s incorporated in the body. What this means is that you can only clean a small area at a time. Eventually, you will have to refill the tank, and to do that, you’ll have to turn the unit off (yes, you’ll have to wait for it to heat up again before continuing).
Not Meant For Scrubbing
This steam mop is great for everyday cleaning but scrubbing? Not so much. If anything, the handle will come apart before you can get the mess off the ground. You’ll be much better off scrubbing with a rag or cloth. In other words, don’t expect it to fix sticky or caked-on messes.
Handle Isn’t Adjustable
This steam mop doesn’t come with a telescoping handle. That is, you won’t be able to adjust its length. Depending on your height, you might find this to be a problem. For example, shorter individuals might find it a little difficult to use.
It Can Leave Streak Marks
Streak marks are a possibility. At the end of the day, it depends on your flooring material. Fortunately, you can always wipe them away.
Quality Issues
Some people have experienced problems where the steam mop will stop working after a while (e.g. won’t turn on). Fortunately, you can always send it back if it’s within the return period.
Does It Clean Well?
The Toppin Steam Mop does what it’s supposed to do. It heats up quickly and dispenses a good amount of steam from the bottom, which allows you to clean your floors. Keep in mind, however, that it’s designed for light cleaning only. Despite what it says in the product description, it’s not suited for tough and sticky messes. Also, it’s a good idea to vacuum the floor beforehand so that the mop pad won’t catch any particles, which can possibly scratch your floor.
Who Would We Recommend It To?
- People who want to sanitize their carpets or hard floors
- People who want to clean small areas of the house
- People who want to use their own cleaning solution
Cost and Pricing Information
The Toppin Steam Mop normally sells for $54.99 on Amazon, which makes it one of the more affordable options on the site (many models go for >$100). Shipping and returns are also free so there aren’t any extra fees besides tax.
Keep in mind, however, that extra parts such as pad refills can be hard to find as they don’t sell them on the site. The good news is that you can pretty much use any microfiber cloth as long as it’s big enough for the mop head (if you search around, you’ll see many third-party options).
