Roborock E35 Robot Vacuum Mop Review

What’s the best way to keep the floor clean? By using a mop! All you need to do is dampen the head with some water and you’re ready to go. You can use them to clean tile, ceramic, marble, or vinyl surfaces. Assuming that they’re properly sealed, you can also use them on hardwood.

As a general rule of thumb, you want to mop high-traffic areas such as bathrooms, hallways, and kitchens at least once a week. Don’t forget to sweep and vacuum as well—that will help to remove any dirt that might otherwise damage the surface.

In terms of how to mop, there are certain steps that you want to follow. Assuming that you’ve already vacuumed, you’ll want to work the mop from one end of the floor to another. The key is to move backwards—that will prevent tracking. If you encounter a stubborn spot, apply downward pressure while rubbing the area back and forth. Once you’re finished mopping, you’ll want to let the floor dry completely before walking over it.

Sounds simple enough, right? Well, you know what? Now there are mops that will do all that for you. Yup, you guessed it—we’re talking about robot mops! Essentially, they’re small computers; you can easily program them to clean the house with the press of a button. Interested? Then you’ll want to read the rest of this post.

You see, we’ll be reviewing the Roborock E35 Robot Vacuum and Mop. Does it come with sensors? How smart is it? Can you control it remotely? To find out, be sure to keep on reading!

The Roborock E35 Robot Vacuum Mop

Roborock is a manufacturer of robotic vacuum cleaners. Based in Beijing, the company’s goal is to provide consumers with innovative products that address different household issues. In 2016, they released their first product, the Mi Home Robotic Vacuum Cleaner, which became a number one seller in China. Since then, they’ve come out with several other robots, some of which are designed in collaboration with Xiaomi.

The Roborock E35 is a 2-in-1 robot. Not only does it come with powerful suction, but it also comes with a water tank, which allows it to mop the floors clean. What sets it apart from other robotic cleaners? It’s capable of analyzing your home while it works. In other words, you won’t have to worry about it getting lost or bumping into objects. What’s more, is that you can control it remotely via your smartphone. Keeping the house clean has never been easier!

What’s Included

The Roborock E35 Robot Vacuum and Mop comes with everything that you need to start using the machine. Here’s a quick breakdown of the contents:

  • 1 Reusable Mop Pad
  • 1 Removable Water Tank
  • 1 Docking Station (With Power Cable)
  • 1 Washable HEPA Air Filter
  • 1 Side Brush

As you can see, the E35 comes with a reusable mopping cloth. Attaching it is easy—all you have to do is slide it along the mopping module (there are a couple of velcro attachments that will keep it in place). Once you’re finished cleaning, you can take it off and put it in the washer. As far as other mopping parts go, it also comes with a water tank that allows it to wet the floor. How else would you be able to get rid of the grime, right?

Note: You can fill the cartridge with water (with or without vinegar) or a cleaner. Keep in mind, however, that some products may block the filter.

Like most robotic cleaners, the device also comes with a docking station. To install it, you’ll want to clip the charger into the groove of the waterproof mat. From there, place the charger against the wall and connect it to an outlet. Once you’ve done that, you can press the power button to turn the E35 on. For the best results, make sure that there isn’t anything in front of or to the sides of the cleaner. Avoid putting the power cable vertical to the floor as there’s a possibility that it can be dragged by the machine.

Another thing that you’ll get is the E11 HEPA air filter. The way it’s designed, it’s capable of eliminating up to 99% of dust and allergens. The best part is that it’s washable—so you won’t have to keep buying replacements! All you need to do is rinse it under the faucet every once in a while.

Last but not least, the robot comes with a side brush that rotates while it’s vacuuming. In doing so, particles and debris will be fed into the vacuum.

Smart Features

The Roborock E35 has quite a few smart features. We’ll be going over them below.

Includes 13 Different Sensors

The E35 is equipped with 13 different types of sensors that allow it to grasp the cleaning area. For one thing, it’s capable of sensing cliffs. In other words, it won’t be falling down the stairs anytime soon. Not only that, but it’s capable of sensing furniture and objects, which decreases the likelihood that it’ll get trapped. Even if it does bump into an obstacle, the robot will automatically slow down as to decrease the damage.

Capable of Route Planning

The robot cleaner comes with dual-gyroscopes that allow it to analyze every movement it makes. In doing so, it’s capable of determining effective cleaning paths—whether it’s vacuuming or mopping. Keep in mind, however, that the model does not support mapping.

Can Be Controlled Remotely

The Roborock E35 can be controlled remotely from a smartphone. In order to do so, you’ll have to sync it with the Mi Home App, which is available for both iOS and Android devices. Once it’s installed, you’ll be able to start, stop, schedule, and customize cleaning from the screen. Not to mention that you’ll be able to check the status of the different accessories. All that’s required is a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network!

Potential Issues With the Roborock E35 Robot Vacuum And Mop

The E35 cleaner is great, however, it’s not perfect. Here are some issues that people have run into on Amazon:

It Does Not Come with Mapping Features

As mentioned earlier, the E35 is not capable of mapping the house (it can only create a route plan based on the information from its sensors). Put it simply, it doesn’t know where exactly it has to navigate to. Because of this, it has a tendency of using random cleaning patterns. As a result, you might notice it going over the same area a few times.

Does Not Work Well With Dark-Colored Rugs/Carpets

The E35 is equipped with a sensor that allows it to detect carpets and rugs. If it comes across one, it will boost suction in order to get rid of deeply lodged dust and dirt. With that said, it tends to run into issues if the surface is dark-colored—that is, it might get jammed. In some cases, an error message might also pop up. Considering this, you might want to go for a different model if your house contains large carpeted areas.

Instruction Manual Is Not Very Helpful

As with all robotic cleaners, the E35 comes with an instruction manual. However, it’s not exactly the most detailed. Sure, it has all the basic information but it lacks some details. For instance, it does not have step-to-step instructions on how to schedule cleanings with the app. Chances are, you’ll have to Google around if you want to use the robot to its full capacities.

The Battery Can Be Better

According to the product listing, the E35 is capable of cleaning non-stop for up to 150 minutes per charge. While that might be true at the beginning, the battery life has a tendency of declining over time—that is, you might find that it drains quickly (especially if you’re using it at maximum suction). Another thing to keep in mind is that it will automatically return to the docking station once the battery reaches 30%. Assuming that you’re cleaning more than one room, this might make the vacuuming/mopping session longer that it needs to be.

Does It Clean Well?

For what it is, the E35 has great suction power (the side brushes help as well). Not only will it remove dust, but it will also eliminate food particles, dirt, and animal hair. Assuming that you’ve paired it with the app, you’ll also be able to set the suction settings (i.e. how strong you want it to be). It might be a little noisier than what you’d expect, but it works well. On top of all that, the dustbin is a decent size. In other words, you won’t have to empty it every few minutes.

In contrast, its mopping feature is rather lackluster. After all, the mop pad is quite thin—it might be able to give it a light clean, but that’s it. As a matter of fact, many people have found that it tends to detach from the velcro once it’s moving. Another thing to keep in mind is that it is not capable of distinguishing carpet from hard floors. The only option would be to block off certain areas with magnetic tape, which you’d have to purchase separately.

Considering all that, it’s not surprising to know that most people get the E35 for vacuuming/sweeping purposes. The mopping feature is nice to have, but it’s definitely not the main highlight—as far as practicality goes, anyway.

How to Use the Roborock E35 Robot Cleaner

Assuming that it’s your first time using the cleaner, you’ll want to set up the dock charger. Simply place it against the wall and connect it to an electrical outlet. From there, you’ll want to attach it to the waterproof mat. Make sure that there’s nothing within 0.5m of the station as that can affect the robot’s ability to dock properly. Once you’ve set everything up, place the E35 on the dock and let it charge.

Note: It might be a good idea to download the Mi Home App while the cleaner is charging. Keep in mind that you’ll need to use a 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi network.

When the device is ready, fill in the water tank (you’ll have to open a lid on the mopping module). Next, you’ll want to prepare the mopping cloth. Ultimately, what you want to do is to dampen it with a bit of water. Squeeze it dry gently and slide it along the end of the water tank—there are two velcro attachments that will keep it in place. Once you’ve done that, install the module by pushing it into the rear of the machine—you should hear a “click.”

To start cleaning, press the power button. Alternatively, you can use the app on your mobile device. When the robot is finished cleaning, it will automatically return to the dock charger. Once it’s there, you can remove the mopping module by pulling it with your hands.

Regular Maintenance

It’s important to clean the main brush at least once a week. To do this, flip the device over and remove the brush cover by pushing on the buckle—that will allow you to lift the main brush. Once you’ve cleaned it, reattach it to the unit and brush cover.

Another thing that you want to do is to clean the dust bin and strainer. To remove the top cover, press on the dust bin buckle. Once the dust bin is out, you can empty it in the trash. From there, you can rinse it with water. Let it dry completely before putting it back on the cleaner.

Last but not least, you want to clean the air filter and mop pad, the latter of which should be rinsed after every cleaning.

Cost and Pricing Information

The Roborock E35 is priced similarly to most robotic vacuums/mops. For those who are curious, it’s typically listed for $399.99 on Amazon, which comes with free two-day shipping. At the time of this writing, however, the model is on sale for $349.99. To give you a better idea of where that stands, similar products (those that do not come with a mopping function) go for $200 to $400.

In terms of accessories, there isn’t much to get. If anything, the only thing that you might want to get is additional mop pads (that’s only if you use the mopping feature, though). Otherwise, you’ll only have to get parts if you want to replace the original ones. Considering this, the E35 is quite cost-effective in the long run. You don’t even need to get a special cleaner or anything—water and vinegar will do the trick for the most parts (you can if you want, though).

Our Take
The Roborock E35 is great in that it functions as both a vacuum and mop. Equipped with a HEPA air filter, it will eliminate up to 99% of all dust and allergen! To start your cleaning session, all you have to do is press a button. If you want, you can also control it remotely via an app. Complete with 13 different censors, it’s capable of sensing its environment including cliffs and objects. With that said, it does not come with a mapping feature. Due to this, it has a tendency of cleaning in a random pattern. Some people have also experienced issues where the robot gets confused by dark-colored rugs and carpets. Considering this, it might not be the best option if you have large carpeted areas.
