Quickie Super Squeeze Sponge Mop Review

When was the last time you cleaned the floors in your house? If anything, it’s one of the dirtiest surfaces. After all, you’re constantly stepping on it with your shoes. Given that, it only makes sense to clean it regularly—ideally, once per week. That way, you won’t have to worry about the dirt and grime building up. Remember, just because the floor looks clean, doesn’t mean that it actually is. The last thing that you want is to track the filth everywhere inside!

As for how to clean the floor, there are several options. For instance, you can wipe the surface with a cloth and a bit of cleaner. There’s also the mop for those who don’t want to constantly bend over. In fact, there are various types that you can choose. Take steam mops, for example, they have the ability to release steam, which is capable of sanitizing and cleaning at the same time. There are also spray mops, which allow you to dispense cleaner with the press of a button.

And then there are sponge mops. Basically, they’re mops that have a sponge at the end for cleaning—and that’s the kind that we’ll be looking at today. More specifically, we’ll be reviewing the Quickie Super Squeeze Sponge mop.

How does it work? What sets it apart from other sponge mops? Are there any drawbacks that you should know about? Find out by reading the post!

The Quickie Super Squeeze Sponge Mop

Quickie is known for their expertly engineered cleaning tools, all of which are designed to make cleaning easier. Based in Huntersville, North Carolina, they offer various products including brooms, scrubbers, mops, brushes, dusters, and more. What’s more, is that you can find them at many retailers across the country including Home Depot, Walmart, CVS, and Bed Bath and Beyond, to name a few.

The Quickie Super Squeeze Sponge Mop is unique in that it comes with a spring-back wringer. In other words, you can wring the sponge without actually dirtying your hands. Featuring a tear-drop hole design, the water will automatically come out when you squeeze it. Speaking of the sponge, it’s made of cellulose and cellulene, both of which are super absorbent. All you need is a little bit of water and cleaner and you’ll be able to remove even the toughest of scuffs and caked-on dirt.

What’s Included

Here’s a list of all the parts that you’ll get with the Quickie Super Squeeze Sponge Mop.

  • 1 Mop Handle
  • 1 Mop Head
  • 2 Mounting Bolts
  • 1 Mop Sponge

Assembly: Start by attaching the handle to the mop head. Once you’ve done that, attach the sponge—there are plastic washers on the base that you can use to secure it in place. And that’s basically it. For those who are wondering, yes, it does come with instructions if you need them.

The mop comes with a blue handle that measures 48” in length. While it isn’t extendable, it is long enough so that you can reach most places when you’re cleaning.

Then there’s the mop head. As you can see in the pictures, it is physically attached to the wringing system, which is the grey piece that flips up and down (there are plastic bolts and wringers that hold the piece in place). Not only that, but it comes with a built-in scrubber (the red piece in the front) for those stubborn messes. It’s also where you attach the sponge, as mentioned earlier.

Finally, you get one blue sponge for the mop. While you can’t put it in the washer, you can clean it easily with water and soap. Given how soft it is, you can safely use it on a variety of surfaces from hardwood to granite.

Build Quality of the Quickie Super Squeeze Sponge Mop

There are a couple of things that you want to look for when you’re shopping for a mop. First off, you want something with a metal handle (stainless steel or aluminum are best)—they’re much more durable than their plastic counterparts. Second of all, you want to see if there are any easily breakable parts; things that can render the mop useless if it breaks.

As for the Quickie Super Squeeze Sponge Mop, it does have a metal handle—one that’s made of stainless steel. So in that regards, it is more durable than some of the other ones out there. The only drawback, however, is that the bolts and wings on the base are made of plastic so there’s always a chance that they’ll snap or break. The same thing goes for the wringer—it’s also made of plastic so you’ll want to be careful not to be too rough with it when you’re using it.

The sponge, however, is of decent quality. Made of cellulose and cellulene, it’s extremely absorbent, which makes it ideal for wet mopping. It also has a good thickness to it, as you can see in the images.

Potential Drawbacks

Here are a few cons about the Quickie Super Squeeze Sponge Mop that you might want to know about.

Plastic Nuts Aren’t Very Durable

The plastic nuts that affix the sponge to the mop aren’t very durable. Over time, they will break and come apart. In fact, it’s one of the main complaints on Amazon. This is especially true if you do a lot of scrubbing by pushing down. The bad thing is that you can’t really replace the nuts so you’ll have to request for a replacement.

Getting Replacement Sponges Is Tricky

The mop only comes with one sponge so you will eventually need to get refills and while Quickie offers them in their shop, there are many different kinds so you have to be careful that you’re getting the right one. The worst part is that they look very similar so you have to make sure to read the fine print to see which mop it’s for.

Scrubber Isn’t Very Practical

There’s a red strip on the front of the mop head that functions as a scrubber. Unfortunately, however, it’s not very practical—that is, it tends to come off very easily so you really can’t do much scrubbing with it. You’ll be much better off using a separate cloth.

Wringer Isn’t the Most Durable

The wringer pretty much consists of two pieces of plastic that are snapped together. In other words, it’s not very durable. When you wring the mop head, you can sometimes feel the pieces shifting under pressure.

Sponge Isn’t Very Good For Spills

While the sponge itself is absorbent, the material that it’s made of isn’t really capable of “picking up” the liquid, if that makes sense. For example, if you have a spill, it’ll kind of move it around instead of absorbing it up.

The Foam Top Tends to Fall Off After a While

The foam part of the sponge will come off after a while, especially if you use the mop on a regular basis. In other words, you’ll have to clean little pieces of sponge off your floor in addition to mopping it, which kind of defeats the point.

Quality Issues

Many people have stated that their mop came either with damaged or missing parts. Just something to keep in mind before you make your order.

Does It Clean Well?

To be honest, the sponge isn’t that effective at cleaning, especially when you’re dealing with large amounts of liquid on the floor. Like we said earlier, the material is quite hard and stiff so it has a tendency of pushing things around instead of absorbing it. The scrubber is also mediocre at best. Not only is it small, but it’s not attached very securely to the mop head—that is, it can fall off when you’re actually scrubbing. You’re probably better off scrubbing with something else.

As for the wringer, it’s okay. It does the job in that it’s able to wring the water out of the sponge. The only thing is that it’s not particularly durable. For one thing, the bolts are made out of plastic so it’s likely that they will break or wear out over time but that’s more of a construction issue than anything.

Cost and Pricing Information

The Quickie Super Squeeze Sponge Mop is fairly affordable at around $20 so it’s not like it’s a huge investment. Shipping is also free on Amazon so there are no extra charges associated with that. Returns are free as well in case you change your mind about the purchase. It’s also worth mentioning that the mop does get discounted from time to time.

Now, as far as the sponge refills go, you can get them for a few bucks per piece. If anything, the most important thing is that you get the right one. Like we said earlier, Quickie brands several types of sponge mops, and not all of the sponges will work with this one. So make sure that it’s suitable for your mop before making a purchase. The last thing that you want is to spend money on something that you can’t use!

The Quickie Super Squeeze Sponge Mop is convenient in that you can wring the sponge without touching it with your hands. It’s also versatile in that you can use it on a variety of surfaces from glass to hardwood. However, there are some issues with its design. For one thing, the sponge isn’t very good at absorbing water despite being, well, a sponge. Instead, it has a tendency of moving it around on the floor. On top of that, it’s not particularly durable. That is, the foam top will wear out and fall off after a while. On top of all that, the mop has plastic nuts that are prone to breaking.
