PurSteam ThermaPro 10-in-1 Steam Mop Review
How often do you use the mop? Ideally, you want to use it on the floors at least once a week—that’ll help keep dirt and dust at bay. You’d be surprised just how dirty it can get, especially in high-traffic areas! The kitchen, in particular, requires constant attention. Because let’s face—food particles will inevitably end up on the ground. Leave them alone and you’re bound to get trouble. For one thing, it can attract unwanted pests!
Given that, it’s crucial that you mop regularly. But wait, the kind of mop that you use matters too. For example, you wouldn’t want to use a dust mop to clean up a wet mess. There are better options such as microfiber mops and sponge mops. If anything, you want to invest in one that’s right for your home. Take spray mops, for instance—they’re probably not the best choice if most of your house is carpet. On the flip side, though, they’re great for tile, hardwood, and other hard floors.
Speaking of spray mops, we’re here today to talk about a specific one made by PurSteam. How much water does it hold? Does the spraying mechanism work well? What about the pads? How are they on different floor surfaces? Want to know the answers? If so, be sure to keep reading! Because those are some of the things that we’ll be taking a look at in our review below.
The PurSteam ThermaPro 10-in-1 Steam Mop Cleaner Review
PurSteam is a relatively new brand that’s only been on the market for a few years. Aside from steam mops, they also sell humidifiers, essential oil diffusers, travel steamers, irons, and more. As far as we can tell, though, you can’t purchase their products through their official site—they’re only available on Amazon. That hasn’t stopped them from growing, though. Since their launch, they’ve already garnered thousands of positive reviews on the site! That has to say something about the brand, right?
The PurSteam ThermaPro is a 10-in-1 system that’s designed to make cleaning quick and easy. Not only can you use it for the floor, but it also comes with a built-in handheld steamer that you can use for clothes, glass, countertops and more. What’s more, is that it heats up super quickly—30 seconds is all it takes. From there, you’ll be able to clean and sanitize with the power of steam, which is capable of killing up to 99% of germs and bacteria.
What’s Included
The kit doesn’t just come with the steam mop, you also get a bunch of accessories that will help you with your cleaning. Here’s a breakdown of all the stuff that you’ll get:
- 1 Steam Mop Unit (With Built-in Handheld Steamer)
- 1 Window Squeegee
- 1 Straight Nozzle
- 2 Mop Cleaning Pads
- 4 Nylon Brushes
- 1 Bent Nozzle
As you can see, it comes with several brushes that you can attach to the head. All you have to do is slide it on—you should hear a “click.” It might be a little difficult at first but it’ll get easier as you keep using the mop. On top of that, you get two types of nozzles with which you can control the steam. Putting it on is easy, just slip it on the base.
As for the mop itself, assembly is relatively straightforward. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come with any instructions but honestly, it should be self-explanatory. Essentially, you just put the handle and base together. It shouldn’t take more than a few minutes tops.
At the bottom, you’ll want to attach one of the two cleaning pads that they give you. It has velcro so you just match up the tabs. Assuming that you fit it properly, it shouldn’t come loose when you’re mopping.
Last but not least—there’s the water reservoir that’s part of the built-in steamer. For those who are curious, it’s capable of holding 340ml of water. To fill it, simply flip open the grey flap on the front—there are markings that show you how much water to add.
Build Quality of the PurSteam ThermaPro Steam Mop
The ThermaPro is mostly made from plastic—including the mop base, handle, reservoir, and accessory pieces. Don’t let that discourage you from getting the product, though. Sure, it might not be the most durable but it gets the job done. If anything, it’s made to withstand the heat that comes from the steam so you won’t have to worry about it getting damaged. Just try not to use too much force when you’re moving the mop around!
As for the cleaning pads, you’ll be happy to know that they’re made from microfiber. In other words, you won’t have to worry about them scratching your floor. Not only that, but they’re super absorbent as well, which means that you’ll be able to clean better! Given that they’re made from actual fabric, you’ll also be able to put them in the wash. In fact, that’s what you’re supposed to do. As soon as they start getting grungy, you can wash them with a little bit of detergent and they’ll look new again. For the best results, let them air dry instead of putting them in the dryer.
Some Possible Issues with the Pursteam Steam Mop
Like most products, however, the PurSteam Thermapro does have a few drawbacks. We’ll be outlining some of them below so that you can get a better feel of what the mop is like:
The Cord Is Relatively Short
The ThermoPro isn’t cordless. In other words, you’ll be dragging a cord around while you clean. That’s not a major issue for most people but keep in mind that the cord is a tad on the short side. For this reason, we recommend that you use an extension cable—that way, you won’t have to keep replugging it into different outlets. It’ll save you time so you’ll be able to mop more efficiently.
Brushes Are Not Super Durable
The brushes that come with the mop are great for cleaning but they also tend to wear down quickly—that is, some people have stated that the bristles come off with regular use (without vigorous scrubbing). Fortunately, there are several that you can use but just keep in mind that at some point, you might need to start looking for replacements, which may or may not be hard to find.
Pad Doesn’t Glide Flawlessly All The Time
Generally speaking, the pad does what it’s supposed to do. Sometimes, however, you might find that the front end lifts off the floor when you’re pulling the mop back towards yourself. In some cases, it might even flip up altogether. To prevent this, you’ll have to control the amount of force that you’re putting into each movement.
Handheld Steamer Can Be A Bit Heavy
The steam mop comes with a built-in handheld steamer that you can use for garment, mirrors, etc. Assuming that you fill the tank all the way with water, however, it can be quite heavy, which can make it difficult to clean. Considering that, you might want to put less water in the tank if you plan on using it as a handheld. You might have to refill more often, but it’s probably worth it.
Tank Could Be Bigger
The tank is a decent size but you’ll notice once you start mopping that the water goes fast (this is especially true if you’re using it to clean areas such as the grout)! Chances are, you’ll have to refill it at least once when you’re mopping so be ready for that.
Steam Tends to Slows Down
The steam is very strong if the water tank its full. Every once in awhile, however, it might stop or slow down. Moisture will still be coming out, but it won’t be as powerful. To avoid this, you’ll want to top up the water once it starts running low.
Does The PurSteam ThermaPro Clean Well?
The short answer is yes. The ThermaPro allows you to clean and sanitize different surfaces with the power of steam, which has the power to kill most bacteria. You don’t need to use any type of cleaner whatsoever! Simply run it across the floor (or whatever you’re cleaning) and the steam will do its job within seconds. Just make sure that you let it heat up properly before you start otherwise it won’t be hot enough.
The pads that come with the mop also work great for removing dirt and other debris. After a few swipes, you’ll see that a bunch of dirt will be stuck to the bottom. Too much will hinder its cleaning ability so make sure to rinse it off every now and then while you’re cleaning and you’re good to go. Of course, you can also switch to another pad.
The only thing to mention is that the corners of the mop head are rounded so you might not get all of the stuff that’s on the floor. But it’s nothing that a few extra swipes with steam won’t fix!
Cost and Pricing Information
The Pursteam ThermaPro is quite affordable as far as steam mops go. Currently, on Amazon, the unit sells for around $65, which includes all the accessories. From time to time, they also have sales. In fact, there’s a coupon that you can use right now at the time of this writing that’ll give you an extra 5% off! Don’t forget, since it’s Amazon, you’ll also get free shipping, which is a nice treat.
As far as refills go, you don’t need much. After all, the mop runs on steam! In other words, you won’t have to spend money on cleaner, which is always a good thing. The only thing that you’ll need is the pads. Yes, you get two with the kit but they’re going to wear out over time. Plus, it’s always great to have a few extras on hand.
Where can you get them? On Amazon. As it is, however, the official ones by PurSteam can be a bit difficult to find. Luckily, though, the Thermopro is compatible with a number of third-party brands. Simply search on the site and you’ll get a list of results. The best part is that they’re not too expensive at all. You’re looking at around $17 to $20 for a pack of 6 or 8, which works out to be $2-3 each.
Now you’re probably wondering—”what about the attachment parts such as the brushes?” Unfortunately, those are not as readily available for purchase. You might be able to find something that fits from other brands, but that’ll require a bit of research.
