Mopping is just one of those things that you have to do. It might not be the most exhilarating of chores but it’s essential if you want to keep your house clean. But did you know that there’s actually a right and wrong way to do it?
For one thing, you always want to sweep or vacuum the floor beforehand. It helps to remove grit and other particles that you don’t want to be pushing around on the floor. Once you’ve done that, you can start mopping. Don’t mop the entire area all at once, though. You want to mop in sections instead. Why? It’ll speed up the process and your floors will be cleaner.
Do you know what else is important? Choosing the right mop. After all, they’re not all the same. For example, some are better suited for spills than others. At the end of the day, you want to make sure that whatever you’re getting is suited for your floors and your needs.
In this post, we’ll be reviewing the Moppson Spin Mop. What type of surfaces is it compatible with? How’s the bucket system? Is it easy to use? Get your answers by reading the rest of the post!
The Moppson Spin Mop and Bucket Floor Cleaning System
Moppson is a brand that you can only find on Amazon. Aside from mops, they also sell utility carts and snow boots. Judging from that, it would seem that they don’t specialize in a specific type of product. That hasn’t stopped their spin mop from getting nearly 200 positive reviews on the site, though. Similarly, their flat mop and bucket system also seems to be selling pretty well.
Product Description: The Moppson Spin Mop comes with a built-in wringer basket that allows you to clean and rinse the mop head with ease. There’s no need to dirty your hands! The pad itself is also made from soft microfiber. Highly absorbent, it can be used on most floor surfaces including hardwood, vinyl, stone, laminate, even concrete. What’s more, is that the mop plate rotates 360 degrees. In other words, you’ll be able to reach into nooks and crannies easily.
Here’s what you’ll get if you buy the Moppson Spin Mop and Bucket System:
- 1 Mop Handle (Comes as 3 parts)
- 1 Bucket System
- 1 Mop Plate
- 5 Microfiber Mop Heads
- 1 Soap Dispenser Bottle
- 1 Instruction Manual
Assembly: Start by attaching the handle pieces together. Once you’ve done that, you can connect the mop head to the bottom. Finally, attach one of the microfiber mop heads to the base and you’re ready to start mopping!
The handle for the spin mop consists of three parts. Put together, it measures approximately 61”. The great thing about it is that it’s also extendable so you can adjust it based on your height. To do that, simply twist the joint on the handle. Don’t forget to lock it back in place once you’re done.
Then there’s the bucket. A decent size, it comes with a built-in wringer on one side that you can use to spin the mop head. Aside from that, it also has wheels and two handles—one in the middle and one up at the front, the latter of which you can use to pull the bucket. In addition that, there’s a drain plug at the bottom that you can use to drain the dirty water as well as a small soap dispenser bottle next to the basket.
Last but not least, you get five microfiber mop heads. If anything, that’s pretty generous of them (most mop systems come with 1 or 2 pads). You shouldn’t have to buy any extras for a while unless you lose them or something.
Build Quality of the Moppson Spin Mop and Bucket Floor Cleaning System
Build quality is super important when you’re shopping for a mop. You want something sturdy and durable that’s going to last many cleaning sessions. For example, it’s a good idea to get one with a stainless steel or aluminum handle. In general, they’re much better than those made of plastic.
The good news is that the Moppson spin mop does come with a stainless steel handle. As a matter of fact, the plate is also stainless steel. The bucket, however, is mostly made of ABS plastic, with the exception of the wringer. This seems to be a fairly common pattern, though, when it comes to these types of mop systems so it’s not all that surprising.
The mop heads are of decent quality. They could be a little bigger but at least they get the job done; the strands aren’t prone to tangling either. It’s also worth mentioning that they’re machine washable so you can clean them easily once you’re finished. As long as you use the air-dry method, they shouldn’t wear out that fast.
The Moppson spin mop does have a few disadvantages. Here are some that people have mentioned on Amazon:
It Can Scratch The Floor If You’re Not Careful
Keep an eye on the mop head when you’re cleaning the floor. You don’t want the strands to gather all on one side, otherwise, the metal plate can scratch the floor. It also helps to keep the handle as straight as possible when you’re mopping.
Bucket Handles Aren’t That Strong
The mop system comes with two handles and while they’re both functional, they’re a little flimsy (which isn’t surprising since they’re plastic). Not only that, but they’re short. It doesn’t matter whether you’re trying to lift it up or pull it from the front, you’ll have to bend down either way.
Telescoping Handle Doesn’t Always Stay In Place
One of the main highlights of this spin mop is that it comes with a telescoping handle. Like most mops with this feature, however, it doesn’t always work the way it should. That is, there’s a high chance that it’ll come loose at some point when you’re cleaning. At least you can tighten it again, though.
Mop Head Is Rather Small
We mentioned this earlier but the mop head is on the small side. Even if you fan on the strands, the surface area isn’t that large. In other words, don’t expect to be able to mop super fast with this mop. If anything, it’s best suited for small areas.
Spinning the Mop Requires Precision
Compared to other wringers, the one that comes with this mop is actually pretty decent. With that said, there is one issue—you have to make sure that the mop is aligned correctly when you put it down otherwise it won’t spin properly to get rid of the water.
Bucket Quality Could Be Better
The bucket is made of thin plastic. For the amount that you’re paying, you’d expect it to be a little thicker. In fact, it’s so light that it’d probably topple over if you walk by it and it’s empty. At least you don’t have to worry about that when it’s filled with water, I guess.
Drain Plug Can Be Leaky
Some people have experienced problems with the drain plug. Despite it being in place, water would leak out of the bucket. Given that it doesn’t seem to be an issue with all of the mops, it’s probably a quality issue with just some units.
Does It Clean Well?
The Moppson mop itself is decent at cleaning hard floors. Used with a wet cleaner, it’ll pick up most loose debris including pet hair. As with all mops, however, you want to rinse it regularly to avoid grime from building up on the head. Another thing is that you have to be careful not to scrape the floor with the metal base when you’re cleaning. The handle is also short, which can make the task harder than it really is for those who are tall.
As for the wringer basket, it’s a lot more effective than some of the other ones out there. Compared to other brands, the one by Moppson doesn’t nearly have as many issues. In fact, the spinning mechanism is quite easy to use once you get used to it—just push down on the handle and the spinner will do everything for you. The longer you spin it, the dryer the mop head will be.
Overall, it’s a good, useful product. It has its flaws here and there but at the end of the day, it does what it’s supposed to do. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a spin mop! The bucket itself isn’t that large either so you won’t have to worry about storage space.
Cost and Pricing Information
The Moppson spin mop is a little more expensive than other spin mops with a price tag of $49.99. Compared to others, however, it does work slightly better plus it comes with a total of five pads so there’s that. Seeing as how it’s sold on Amazon, it also comes with free shipping. You don’t have to pay for returns either if you happen to change your mind at a later date.
In terms of extras, there really isn’t anything that you’ll need to get—or rather, there’s nothing to get. If you look at their online store, you’ll notice that they don’t sell any accessories, just the mop kits themselves. The only downside to this is that you won’t be able to get mop head refills but at least they get you started with five of them!
Remember, you don’t have to get a special cleaning solution for it either. You can pretty much use the mop with anything—of course, that includes things like white vinegar. As you can imagine, that’ll save you money too!
The spin mop by Moppson is one of the better ones out there. It has its flaws (i.e. it can scratch the floors, handles aren’t very strong, the bucket is made of thin plastic) but at the end of the day, it functions as it should. For one thing, the wringer system is very easy to use compared to its competitors. The mop head is also effective at lifting an array of things from pet hair to loose dust. As long as you rinse it correctly you should have clean floors in no time! I’d say that it’s worth the money.
