When it comes to cleaning, mops are one of the things that you should always have in the house. Extremely versatile, they can be used for a variety of purposes including sweeping, dusting, waxing, and of course—mopping. If paired with a cleaning solution, they can also be used to scrub away tough spots and stains.
As you’re probably aware, mops are made out of various materials. For instance, there are ones that are made out of lambswool, sponge, and microfiber, the last of which tends to be more popular nowadays. In any case, they are designed to be highly absorbent—this allows them to soak up a good amount of liquid for the job.
Why You Should Keep the House Clean
- Helps to prevent pest infestation
- Indoor allergens such as dust, pet hair, dust mites, and mold can lead to allergies
- Better for our overall physical and mental health
- Extends the life of your furniture and appliances
There are a few different types of mops. Some come with a removable head while others are stuck in place. In terms of the former category, most use either disposable or reusable cleaning pads; that is, you attach a pad to the bottom of the unit when you want to clean. For the most parts, the two types are equally effective. However, there are a few things to consider when you’re deciding between the two—the most obvious one being cost. As you might have heard, disposable refills can be quite costly in the long run (think of Swiffer). In contrast, reusable pads can be used again and again, which saves you money.
Other Reasons Why Reusable Mop Pads are Better:
- Reusable mop pads are eco-friendly; unlike their disposable counterparts, they do not go into landfills
- They clean nicely in the wash after every use
- Some are compatible with more than one type of mop
- Cheaper in the long run
- Can be rinsed and cleaned during a mopping session
On this page, we will be going over a specific type of mop pad. To be more specific, we will be reviewing the Microfiber Pros Reusable Mop Pad Refills. What is the material like? Is it thick and absorbent? How well does it trap dirt and other debris? How does it attach to the mop head? These are some of the topics that we will be talking about below.
The Microfiber Pros Reusable Mop Pad Refills (18″)
Microfiber Pros sells a variety of cleaning products online. Aside from mop pads, they also sell different kinds of microfiber cloths, all of which are designed to eliminate bacteria and viruses. On top of that, they manufacture hypoallergenic and chemical free dog towels that are meant for bathing, grooming, and cleaning purposes.
Their reusable mop pads are made out of a thick, microfiber material. Washable, they can be hand washed or dropped in the laundry for easy cleaning. Not only does it trap dirt, oil, grease, and dust, but it is capable of holding eight times its weight in water. Anti-bacterial by nature, it eliminates the need for harsh chemicals. In addition to cleaning hard floors, it can be used for scrubbing exteriors and dusting flat surfaces. Depending on your mop, it can also come in handy for cleaning hard to reach areas such as skylights and windows.
The Microfiber Pros Reusable Mop Pads are compatible with a variety of mops including those made by O-Cedar, Wellness, Hygen, Rubbermaid, Microfiber Wholesale, Zwipes, Turkey Creek, Real Clean, and Simplee Clean. For the complete list, you can check out their Amazon listing.
Size: 10 x 5.5 x 3 in
Material: 80% polyester, 20% polyamide blend
The Microfiber Pros Reusable Mop Pads are unique in that they are made out of split filament microfibers. Durable with a dual-channel stitch design, they cover a large surface area with each swipe. In addition to being thick, they are noticeably soft, which helps to pick up particles from the ground.
As far as attachment goes, the pads come with strong velcro strips that are to be used on the mop head. The whole process is quick and straightforward—you can attach it in a matter of seconds. When it comes to washing, be sure to stick the velcro together first, prior to tossing it in the machine (otherwise it can stick to itself, which can damage the cloth)
The only downside is that the inner layer is a bit stiff. Because of this, the pad can be difficult to wring out properly, which might lead to excess water on the floor.
Does it Clean Well?
The Microfiber Pros Reusable Mop Pads work well for cleaning purposes. Once they’re attached to the mop, they glide effortlessly across the floor, trapping particles along the way. Ultimately, the trick is to get it damp first, before you start mopping. With that said, the pads can also be used dry if you want to sweep and get rid of dust—you’ll be surprised how much they’re capable of picking up! You can also scrub with the pads if you have tough stains. For the best results, though, you will want to use some type of cleaning formula that is suitable for your floors.
When you’re done mopping, drop it into the washing machine and you’re done!
Note: For a thorough clean, it helps if you vacuum the room first prior to mopping with the pads. That way, you won’t be pushing around some of the larger debris with your mop.
Cost and Price Information
The Microfiber Pros Reusable Mop Pads are very affordable. Currently, a three-pack sells for $13.75 on Amazon. Doing the math, this works out to be around $4.50 each, which is really quite cheap. If you want to get more, they also sell a five-pack for $19.95 (around ~$4 each). Personally, I would go for the five-pack as it never hurts to have more cleaning pads on hand (you can switch them up when you’re mopping).
Note: The mop pads also come with a bonus suede cloth, which is suited for cleaning glass. Considering that, the whole thing is an even better deal.
