Keeping the floors clean require effort. If anything, it’s a never-ending task. After all, dirt will come into the home, no matter how clean you try to be. The last thing that you want to do is ignore it—that will only cause it to build up! As you can imagine, that can lead to various consequences. For instance, it can compromise the quality of your floor (e.g. scratches, etc). Not only that, but it can actually affect your health!
Considering that, it’s crucial that you mop often. Pay extra attention to high-traffic areas such as the kitchen, entrance, and bathroom. Why? The floors there tend to be dirtier. Aim to mop at least once a week—that will help to keep things clean. In contrast, rooms that are not frequently used do not have to be mopped as often. For instance, you can probably get away with cleaning them once a month.
Thinking of getting a new mop? There are many types that you can choose from. For instance, there are ones that are made of sponge and yarn. Pay a little more and you can even get a robot cleaner that’ll mop the floors for you! On this page, however, we’ll be focusing on the microfiber mop. Yup, you guessed it—they’re the ones that come with a microfiber head.
What sets microfiber apart from other mop materials? A lot of things, actually. For starters, they’re super absorbent—they can absorb over seven times their weight in water! Not only that, but they dry in one-third the time of traditional cloths. Why is this important? It prevents the growth of bacteria. Speaking of which, microfiber fabric also has anti-microbial properties. With just water, you’ll be able to remove up to 99% of bacteria from all surfaces!
Have we convinced you about the product yet? If so, you might want to consider the Mayshine Microfiber Mop. Want to learn more about it? Then be sure to keep reading—we’ll be going over it in details below.
The Mayshine Microfiber Mop
Mayshine is a retail company that specializes in functional household products. Aside from mops, they also sell bath mats, rugs, toilet covers, gripper pads, and more. Like many small businesses, however, they do not have their own store. Instead, their products are available through Amazon. Don’t let that discourage you, though. If anything, their items are just as great, if not greater than those that you’d find in brick and mortar stores.
The Mayshine Microfiber Mop is a high-grade cleaning tool that’s great for hardwood, tile, laminate, stone, and concrete. Equipped with a rotational head, you’ll be able to clean heard-to-reach areas within seconds! Not only is it great for dirt, but the pad is also designed to pick up dust and pet hair. Highly absorbent, you can also use it to mop up spills on various surfaces. When you’re finished with the task, pop it into the washing machine and you’re ready for next time!
The Mayshine Microfiber Mop features a simple design. Here are all of the things that you’ll be getting with it:
- 5 Reusable Microfiber Mop Pads
- 1 Stainless Steel Handle
- 1 Extension Piece For the Handle
- 1 Mop Head
One of the best things about the mop is that it comes with not one, not two, but five microfiber pads! Attaching it to the head is simple—all you have to is place it under the clamps (as long as you position it correctly, it will be kept in place). If anything, this design works much better than velcro strips.
Aside from the pads, you’ll also get an extension piece, which according to the product listing, has a $7.99 value. Ultimately, how it works, is that you attach it to the handle. By doing that, you’ll be able to extend the length of the mop (from 4.5’ to 5.9’). You’d be surprised just how much that can help your back! For one thing, you won’t have to bend down to reach low areas.
Assembly is quite straightforward. The way it’s designed, the metal handle comes in sections—that is, there are a few pieces that you have to put together. The whole process shouldn’t take more than a few seconds. Once you’ve put the handle together, attach it to the mop head. To do that, simply insert the pole into the fixture at the center. From there, all that’s left is to attach one of the microfiber cloths.
Build Quality of the Mayshine Microfiber Mop
Mops are made from all sorts of materials. For instance, it’s not uncommon for some to have a plastic handle. While practical, however, they’re not the most robust. If possible, go for something that’s made from metal such as aluminium. Compared to those made from plastic, they’ll last much longer. Here’s a tip—take a look at the mop in person if you can before making a purchase. Pay attention to its construction. Does it seem sturdy? If not, you might want to opt for something else.
Hows the Mayshine Microfiber Mop in terms of quality? Let’s take a look—starting with the handle. According to the product listing, it is built from durable stainless steel. As far as the mop frame goes, it is made from aluminium. There are some plastic parts, though. To be more specific, parts of the handle and mop head are reinforced by ABS plastic. That’s quite common, however, with these types of mops. If anything, it doesn’t affect the quality of the item in any way.
Next, the mop head. Similar to the handle, it is made from metal and reinforced with plastic. The clamps, however, are solely plastic. Don’t let that fool you, though. The way that they’re designed, they are quite sturdy. In fact, you might want to be careful of your fingers when you’re attaching the cloth!
Finally, the pads. Made out of microfiber, they’re incredibly soft and plush. While thick, they aren’t bulky to the point where they’d have trouble sticking to the mop head. Size-wise, they’re also perfect. Simply fold the edges up and you’ll be able to attach it to the mop head. Perhaps, the best thing about the microfiber pads, however, is that they are reusable—that is, they can be thrown in the washing machine after each use. Given that you use the right settings, they will last you many months.
Some Possible Issues with the Mayshine Microfiber Mop
The Mayshine Microfiber Mop does have a few drawbacks. That shouldn’t come as a surprise, though—after all, no product is perfect! According to Amazon reviews, here are some of the most issues that people have run into with the mop:
The Mop Head Tends to Flip Up
The Mayshine comes with a 360-degree rotational mop head. While this is meant to make mopping easier, it can also make it more difficult. Put it simply, it has a tendency of flipping when you’re moving the mop backwards (sometimes forwards as well). To prevent this, you have to hold the lower part of the handle with your hand tightly. As you can imagine, that can get tiring quickly. Not to mention that it can slow down your progress.
Microfiber Pads Don’t Do Much If They’re Dry
You will not be able to remove dirt and dust if the microfiber pad is dry—it simply won’t adhere to the particles. You can pretty much think of it like a broom. Instead of picking up the dust, it will push them around. Given that, it might be best to use it with a small dustpan. Things are different if you wet the pad with water or a cleaner, though. Do that, and the microfiber pad will be much more capable of actually gripping the debris.
Wet Microfiber Mops Tend to Stick to the Ground
As mentioned above, the microfiber cloths are capable of picking up debris if used wet. Due to the moisture, however, they have a tendency of sticking to the ground—that is, there is friction between the mop and the floor. As such, it can be a little challenging to maneuver—you’ll have to put in a bit more effort with each push.
Mop Head Is A Bit On the Big Side
The Mayshine might not be the best choice if you’re looking for something small and compact. As it is, the mop head is a bit on the larger side. Depending on the furniture and layout of your house, you might not be able to fit it in the nooks and crannies. Just something to keep in mind before you make your purchase!
Does It Clean Well?
The Mayshine Microfiber mop is more of a cloth broom than anything when used dry. While capable of picking up fine particles, larger debris such as dirt will remain on the floor. In other words, you will only be able to sweep around larger particles (e.g. food crumbs, dust balls, etc). Given that, it’s probably best to use it with a dustpan—that way, you’ll be able to get rid of everything with a few sweeps. Once you’re done, simply empty it in the trash can. With that said, it is possible to enhance its performance with a liquid cleaner. Instead of wetting the pad with it, however, you want to apply it to the floor. Basically, what you want to do is pour it into a spray bottle. From there, you can spray onto the floor—that should help the mop pad grip onto the debris.
As far as wet mopping goes, it does a relatively good job. You can pretty much use anything from water to a commercial cleaner (make sure it’s compatible with your floor type). Once dampened, it will effortlessly remove particles (including animal hair) from the floor; streaks are not as issue. The fact that the mop head rotates 360 degrees makes everything easier as well—you just have to be careful when you’re pushing so that it won’t flip over. Similarly, the extender makes things easier when you’re trying to clean walls or ceilings.
Unlike other mops, however, the Mayshine is designed for indoor use only. For instance, it’d be great for homes and offices. While the mop head is a little wide, the entire unit is fairly compact, which would make it suitable for small apartments and condos. Want something that you can use outside? If so, you’ll want to look at another product.
Cost and Pricing Information
The Mayshine Microfiber Mop is budget-friendly. Currently, it sells for $21.99 on Amazon, which is on the cheap side. To give you a better idea, Mr. Siga sells a similar product (microfiber mop with plastic clamp) for $25.98. As with all Amazon purchases, it also comes with free shipping if you’re a Prime Member (otherwise you have to spend over $25). Unfortunately, however, for those who are unable to use the site, the mop is not available for purchase anywhere else.
In terms of the actual pads, you get five to start off with which is quite a good deal. If anything, this is probably the only microfiber mop that comes with so many cloths out of the box! Seeing as how they’re machine washable, they should last you a long time. At the very least, you shouldn’t have to get any refills for at least a year. With that said, you can always buy extras so that you’ll have more on hand whenever you need them.
How much are pad refills? Less than $10 for a pack. To be more specific, you can get a six-pack for $9.99, which works out to be a little over $1.60 each. In other words, the costs will be minimal even if you do decide to buy an extra pack. Don’t forget, you don’t have to use their pads either. Given the fact that it comes with clamps, you can pretty much attach any type of cloth to the mop—as long as the size is right. Even if it’s too big, you can just fold it over before clipping it to the head.
Finally, you don’t need to buy any sort of special cleaner for the Mayshine. As it is, you can dampen the pad with pretty much anything you want. For instance, you can make your own cleaning solution with water or vinegar. Of course, there’s also the option of getting a bottle of cleaner from the store. In any case, you’re not restricted to any product, like the Swiffer. Chances are, you won’t need to use that much either so one bottle should last you a long time aka you won’t have to constantly buy refills.
The Mayshine Microfiber Mop is great for those who want something budget-friendly. Featuring a rotational head, you can use it to clean tile, hardwood, concrete, laminate, and stone. Thick and durable, the mop pads are held in place by plastic clamps. As far as the actual mopping goes, however, they only work well if they’re wet—they tend to push things around if used dry. Another issue is that the mop head is not the most stable; it has a habit of flipping up when you’re moving the mop backwards. Speaking of the head, it’s also a bit on the big side, which may or may not be a good thing depending on what you’re looking for.
