Mangotime Microfiber Mop Review
How often do you clean and sanitize the floor? If anything, it’s only become more important with the current pandemic. The last thing that you want is for germs to spread inside the house!
The good news is that there are many tools that you can use—gone are the days of cleaning with a bucket and rag. For example, you can get a spray mop. That way, you can apply cleaner directly onto the floor without having to deal with a separate bottle. Other popular options include steam mops, self-wringing mops, and robot mops.
On this page, however, we’ll be focusing on microfiber mops. Don’t let their simple design fool you, these mops are actually great cleaning tools. For one thing, they can be used on almost all surfaces from hardwood to granite. Plus, they’re cheap!
Thinking of getting one? If so, why not consider the one by Mangotime? Because that’s what we’ll be talking about below. How many microfiber heads does it come with? Is the handle extendable? What are some of its drawbacks? Find out by reading our review!
The Mangotime Microfiber Mop Review
Mangotime is one of those obscure brands that you can only find on Amazon. As far as we can tell, they only sell one other product—a spray mop that also comes with a microfiber head. Despite that, they seem to be fairly popular among customers. For one thing, they’ve racked up more than 350 positive reviews on the site.
The Mangotime Microfiber Mop features a 360-degree swivel mop head that allows you to easily clean under cabinets, furniture, and other hard-to-reach areas. Not only that, but it can be used both wet and dry—just swap the pad and you’re good to go. Compared to other mops, the head is also larger, which means that you can cover a larger area with each pass. And like most microfiber mops, it can be used on various surfaces including hardwood, laminate, tile, ceramic, etc.
What’s Included
Here’s what you’ll get with the Mangotime Microfiber Mop:
- 1 Floor Mop
- 2 Chenille Mop Pads
- 2 Microfiber Mop Pads
- 1 Scraper Tool
Assembly: First things first, you want to put together the handle, which consists of various parts. Refer to the instruction manual if you have to. Once you’ve done that, put on the mop head. Finally, you can attach one of the pads to the bottom.
The floor mop consists of two “parts”—the handle and the mop plate. Like we said above, the former comes as several pieces that you have to put together. Length-wise, it measures 54 inches. For most people, that should be long enough so that you can clean without having to bend over.
As far as the pads go, there are two types—a chenille pad meant for picking up dirt, dust, pet hair, and a microfiber pad that’s meant to be used for wet mopping. Both go on the same way in that you just have to “drop” the mop base onto the pad. When you’re finished cleaning, just take it off and put it in the washing machine. Alternatively, you can wash it by hand in the sink. Either way, you can reuse it once it’s dry. And you get two of each so that should be enough for many cleaning sessions.
Finally, there’s a scraper tool that you can use to remove hair and dust from the pad (it comes in handy if you have pets). We highly recommend using it before popping the mop head into the washing machine. That way, they won’t form clumps during the wash cycle.
Build Quality
Some mops are more fragile than others. At the end of the day, you want to take a look at what they’re made of. Ideally, you want to get something that comes with a metal handle as opposed to plastic—they’re much more durable.
Does the Mangotime Microfiber Mop have that? Yes, it does—it comes with a stainless steel handle and an aluminum mop head. Not only will it last longer, but the latter will also help to prevent the mop head from flipping (this can happen if it’s too light).
In terms of the mop pads, they’re a decent size. In fact, they’re much wider than the head, which means that you won’t have to worry about scratching the floor with the mop plate. Also, the fabric is very soft—both for the dry and wet pads. At the same time, they do their job well; the chenille pad is effective at trapping dust and dirt while the microfiber pad is great for deep cleaning. They also seem to hold up well in the wash.
Potential Drawbacks
As great as the mop may be, it does have a few drawbacks and we’ll be going over some of them below.
Missing Instructions
This isn’t a drawback of the mop per se, but it’s still worth mentioning. Many people on Amazon have stated that their product did not come with any instructions. Fortunately, assembly is pretty straight forward, however, it can still be frustrating for some.
Quality Issues With the Handle
The handle might be made out of stainless steel, but its design is not the best. The way it works, you have to attach three pieces together and they don’t always stay secure. In fact, many people have said that theirs came out while cleaning. You can get by with some tape, but obviously, it isn’t ideal.
You Can’t Hang It Up
Unlike other mops, this one doesn’t come with a hanging hole at the top of the handle. In other words, you’ll have to store it in a different way. Depending on what you’re used to, this may be a deal-breaker.
It Might Leave Streaks On Some Floors
It’s important to note that there is a possibility of streak marks with this mop. At the end of the day, it depends on the type of floor that you have (some people have said that it leaves marks on hardwood and laminate). Also, the cleaner that you use can affect it as well so you might want to play around with that.
The Handle Isn’t Extendable
The mop handle isn’t extendable. Depending on how tall you are, you might find it to be a little on the short side. If you want something that you can adjust, you’ll want to get something else.
The Mop Head Can Flip
The aluminum mop head isn’t as likely to flip compared to the ones made of plastic but it can still happen. And obviously, that can be annoying when you’re trying to clean the floor. The good news is that you can prevent this by limiting the amount of pressure that you put on the mop.
Extra Pads Can Be Hard to Get Ahold Of
The company does sell extra pads (both the dry and wet ones), however, they’re not always available in their Amazon store. Fortunately, they give you four pads to start off with so you shouldn’t need replacements for a while.
It Doesn’t Exactly Rotate 360 Degrees
They say the mop rotates 360 degrees but that’s not really the case. It actually rotates 180 degrees on the width side and 180 degrees on the length side. That doesn’t change the fact that it does swivel, though.
Does It Clean Well?
This mop is effective both wet and dry. The chenille pad is great for removing dirt, dust, and pet hair, while the microfiber pad is good for overall cleaning. Just make sure to use an appropriate cleaner if you’re wet mopping. And for the best results, sweep or vacuum the room first. That will ensure that you won’t have to deal with any grit.
The way it’s designed, it also fits under most things including baseboards and sofas.
Given its small size, it’d be ideal for those living in small condos or apartments. Just keep in mind that there’s no hanging hole!
Cost and Pricing Information
The Mangotime Microfiber Mop is definitely on the affordable side with a retail price of $24. And if your total order is over $25 on Amazon, shipping will be free. Given that, you might want to add another small item to your cart.
Note: There will be coupons from time to time so watch out for those. In fact, there’s a $2 off code at the time of this writing.
What else do you have to get? Not much. After all, they pretty much give you everything that you need to get started. Even if you need replacement pads, they shouldn’t cost you that much. The only thing is that you will need some sort of cleaning solution. Whatever you use, make sure that it’s suitable for your floors. Personally, we like white vinegar as it’s all-natural and does not contain any harmful chemicals. All you have to do is mix it with some water. We recommend pouring it into a spray bottle as that’ll make it easier to use with your mop.
