Mops are great tools to have. Highly versatile, they can be used to clean a variety of surfaces including floors (e.g. hardwood, vinyl, granite, concrete, tile, etc.), walls, ceilings, countertops, and more. While it depends on the individual design, most can be used wet or dry. For instance, you can easily get rid of tough stains by pairing it with a cleaner; you can also use it for dusting and sweeping. Soft and absorbent, you won’t have to worry about it scratching or damaging your home. If anything, it should be something that is used regularly. Remember, it’s important to keep the house tidy and clean. After all, too much dust and whatnot can lead to a multitude of health problems including allergies.
As you might already know, there are two types of mops. The first kind uses disposable pads, whereas the second uses reusable pads. If you’ve ever cleaned with a Swiffer before, you’re probably familiar with the former. While they are both just as effective at getting rid of grime, most people have begun to prefer the latter. The answer is simple—with reusable pads, you don’t have to constantly buy refills, which quickly add up. Assuming that a pack costs $10 and that you clean the house regularly, you can easily spend over $100 in a year! Not only that, but they are bad for the environment. Did you know that billions of them go into landfills every year?
Compared to the disposable variety, reusable pads are much more affordable; they are also eco-friendly. When you’re done mopping, they can be washed and reused. Depending on the material that they’re made out of, you might even be able to throw them into the laundry! Provided that they are cleaned properly, a set of cleaning pads should last you many cleaning sessions (probably several months).
Benefits of Reusable Mop Pads:
- More cost-effective than disposable mop pads in the long run
- Most clean well in the wash
- A single pad can be used for several months
- Refills are typically inexpensive
- An eco-friendly option
On this page, we will be reviewing a particular brand of reusable mop pad refills. That is, we will be going over the Mail Order Direct Mop Pads. Are they capable of picking up large particles? Are the pads easy to attach to the mop head? These are some of the things that we will be discussing below.
Mail Order Direct Reusable Microfiber Mop Pads (Set of 2)
Mail Order Direct sells a variety of items including magazine organizers, wrist supports, paper plate holders, and more. As far as we can tell, though, their products are only available for purchase on Amazon. This applies to their mop pads as well. Unfortunately, this means that you won’t be able to find them in brick and mortar stores.
The Mail Order Direct Reusable Mop Pad Refills are made out of a soft microfiber material. Not only is it constructed to be durable, but it traps and collects dirt, dust, and other particles from a variety of surfaces. Easy to use, it comes with velcro strips on the sides that allow you to secure it to your existing mop. As you can expect, the pads are also machine washable. That’s right—you can just toss them in the laundry bin when they’re dirty. Once they’re washed, allow them to air dry and they’ll be ready for the next round.
Size: 11″ W X 5 3/4″ L
Material: Microfiber (100% polyester)
Despite not being particularly thick, the pads are very absorbent—this makes them excellent for wet mopping. Noticeably sturdy, they are much better than the disposable pads that you can get for your mop. As expected from a microfiber pad, they also remove a significant amount of dust and grime off the floor.
Attaching the pads is also easy and straightforward. All you have to do is wrap it around the mop head using the flaps, which come with wide strips of velcro. The way they’re designed, they fit snug and do not fall off when you’re cleaning. They also wash nicely in the washing machine; just be sure to secure the velcro beforehand—otherwise, they can wear out pretty quickly!
Note: There is a chance that it can get caught on itself if you do not close the flaps before putting them in the wash—this will quickly wear out the pad.
Does it Clean Well?
As mentioned earlier, the Mail Order Direct Mop Pads are excellent for wet mopping. Ultimately, what you want to do is spray some cleaner (water and vinegar work too) either to the pad or to the ground. From there, you can begin to mop a small section of the room. Given that the cleaning solution is suitable for your floor type, it should not leave any streak marks on the surface.
Depending on how much dirt is on your floors, you might have to rinse the pad out a few times during your cleaning session. Still, it should only take you a couple of minutes to do. While it depends on the type of mop that you have, the pads generally go into corners well; they also do a good job of mopping edges.
Note: If you don’t want to do too much rinsing when you’re cleaning, it might be a good idea to use two at a time—that way you can alternate the pads.
Cost and Price Information
The Mail Order Direct Microfiber Mop Pads are pretty affordable. As a matter of fact, they are one of the most inexpensive options out there. At the time of this writing, they are listed for $10.89 on Amazon. Seeing as how they come in packs of two, this works out to be around $5.50 for one pad—really, it doesn’t get much cheaper than that. Even if you were to get six of them, it would only cost you ~$30. Obviously, this is a much better alternative to using disposable pads.
Note: Mail Order Direct also sells a chenille variety that is meant for dusting and sweeping. It is a little cheaper at ~$8 for a pack of two.
