Lefant Robot Vacuum Cleaner Review

Not a fan of cleaning? You can always get a robot vacuum. All you have to do is press a few buttons and it’ll do the job for you. If anything, it’ll save you an incredible amount of time.

Other Benefits:

– Their small size allows them to clean in tight areas (e.g. underneath furniture)

– They work on different surfaces from hardwood to carpet

– Some can be controlled remotely via your smartphone

– Most are programmable

– You can set boundaries with virtual walls

Keep in mind, however, that they can be expensive, depending on what you get. In fact, some can run you over $1,000! With that said, not all of them cost an arm and a leg—that is, there are affordable options out there. At the end of the day, you just need to know what to look for.

Take the Lefant Robot Vacuum Cleaner, for example, you can get it for under $200. How well does it perform? What accessories does it come with? Does it have any drawbacks? Find out by reading the rest of this post!

The Lefant Robot Vacuum Cleaner

Lefant isn’t a big company. For one thing, their products (they sell two things—robot vacuums and robot vacuums/mops) are only available online. That’s not to say that they’re not effective, though. If anything, their robot vacuums are quite popular on Amazon with hundreds of positive reviews. Where else can you find their robots? On eBay and other similar sites.

Product Description

The Lefant Robot Vacuum Cleaner is designed for hard floor and low pile carpets. Featuring FreeMove Technology, it’s capable of adjusting its cleaning path automatically. Not only that, but it’s powered by a strong digital motor that offers 1800pa of suction power. There are three cleaning modes as well (edge, spot clean, automatic) so you can choose exactly what you want to use. And yes, it can be controlled via a remote control or mobile app! If you want, you can even schedule it so that it will clean on certain days and times.

What’s In the Box?

Here’s a list of all the parts that you’ll get with the Lefant Robot Vacuum Cleaner:

  • 1 Lefant Robot Vacuum Cleaner
  • 1 Charging Base + Power Adapter
  • 2 HEPA Filters
  • 2 Side Brushes
  • 1 User Manual

Like most robot vacuums, the M201 comes with a 500ml dustbin that’s integrated into the body. And inside, is the HEPA filter. As far as the backside goes, that’s where you’ll find the side brush, suction mouth, and wheels. It’s important to note that this particular model does not have a roller brush. If anything, that’s one of its selling points. Because there’s no roller brush, you won’t have to worry about hair getting tangled while it’s cleaning.

Then there’s the charging base. It goes without saying but that’s what you’ll be using to charge the battery. In terms of setup, it’s pretty straightforward—basically, all you have to do is plug it into the wall with the power adapter. From there, you can charge the robot by placing it on the base.

And for those who’re wondering, yes, it does come with a couple of spare parts. More specifically, it comes with one extra HEPA filter and one extra side brush. Make sure to keep them in a safe spot because you will need to use them eventually (generally speaking, you should replace them after 2-3 months).

Last but not least, there’s a user manual, which you can refer to if you run into any issues (their manual is not available online so make sure not to lose it!).

Smart Features

Here is a list of the M201’s smart features.

Anti-Collision Sensors

The Lefant robot vacuum comes with built-in collision sensors that prevent it from hitting and scratching your furniture and walls. Not only that, but there are anti-drop sensors on the bottom as well, which will prevent it from falling down stairs.

Can Be Controlled With a Mobile App

The robot vacuum can be controlled with the Lefant Life App, which is available for both iOS and Android devices. For example, you can use it to check the cleaning status or to select a cleaning mode. There’s also the option of scheduling a session in advance.

Voice Controls

The Lefant works with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. In other words, you can control it with voice commands. For example, you can tell Alexa to turn the robot on.

Automatic Recharge

The M201 will automatically return to the charging base when the battery is low. That way, it’ll always be ready to clean.

Drawbacks

The Lefant Robot Vacuum does have a few noticeable cons, which we’ll be talking about below.

Mobile App Isn’t Available in the US

One of the biggest cons is that the mobile app isn’t available in the U.S. If you search it up, it’ll tell you that it’s not available for your region. In other words, the only way to control it is with the remote. Keep in mind, however, that you won’t be able to program the robot with it.

Underwhelming Suction

The vacuum’s suction is average at best. You can probably use it to get rid of dirt and dust but anything bigger (e.g. cat litter, food crumbs) will remain on the floor. And because there’s no rolling brush, a lot of debris will be left behind.

Problems Returning to Charging Base

The robot should be able to return to the charging base when the battery is low but sadly, that’s not always the case. Chances are, it will have trouble locating it, even if it’s directly in front of the vacuum. You’re better off picking it up and placing it on the dock yourself.

App Isn’t Very User Friendly

The app, if you’re lucky enough to be able to use it, isn’t very user-friendly. For one thing, there are no instructions on how to program the robot in the manual so you have to figure it out on your own.

WiFi Problems

Several people have experienced issues where the robot will not connect with the WiFi. Obviously, that would mean that you wouldn’t be able to use the Lefant app.

Note: The Lefant will only connect to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. If you have 5GHz Wi-Fi, you’re out of luck.

Random Cleaning Pattern

The M201 cleans in a random pattern; there’s no rhyme or reason to where it goes. Because of this, there’s a high chance that you’ll end up with missed spots. Also, its sensors aren’t the best so it can hit things along the way as well.

Only One Side Brush

The robot vacuum tends to clean unevenly due to the fact that it only has one side brush. Not to mention that it’s not as strong—you’ll need more time to cover all the areas.

Boundary Issues

There’s no way to set boundaries with the M201—it does not support the use of magnetic strips nor does it come with a “keep out” feature on the app. So there’s no way to keep it out from certain areas when it’s cleaning.

Gets Stuck Easily

The robot’s low profile means that it can easily get stuck under furniture. For example, it can get stuck under couches, beds, cabinets, etc. If that helps, you’ll have to go save it.

How to Use Lefant Robot Vacuum Cleaner

The M201 will need to be charged prior to being used for the first time. To do that, set up the charging station. Plug the power cable into an outlet and make sure that there’s nothing in front of or around the base. From there, place the unit down so that it’s touching the charging contacts—it will automatically begin to charge.

While it’s charging, you can set up the mobile app. Download it from the App Store/Google Play and connect it with your home WiFi. Follow the prompts on the screen and you should be able to sync it with your robot vacuum.

Once everything is done, you can run it by pressing on the clean button at the top. Alternatively, you can use the Lefant app or remote control.

Does It Clean Well?

Honestly, the suction power could be better. Yes, the robot will be able to get rid of dust but don’t expect it to pick up anything larger than that—this is especially true if you have carpet (remember, it doesn’t have a rolling brush).

The fact that it tends to get stuck easily doesn’t help either. If anything, you really have to pick up everything from the floor before turning it on, which kind of takes away from it being autonomous.

Cost and Pricing Information

The Lefant is relatively affordable as far as robot vacuums go with a price tag of $159.99. Every now and then, it’ll also go on sale. In fact, it’s currently on sale for $119.99 on Amazon. Since shipping is free, the only other thing that you’ll have to pay for is tax.

And yes, Lefant does offer accessories for their robots. For example, you can buy extra HEPA filters or side brushes. They even have replacement remote controls, though they’re currently out of stock.

Our Take
The Lefant Robot Vacuum Cleaner is a good option if you’re looking for an affordable unit. Not only can it be used on carpet, but it can also be controlled via a mobile app (if you happen to live somewhere where it’s available). With that said, its suction isn’t the best; it also has a tendency of bumping into things while it’s cleaning. On top of all that, it can have problems returning to the base. If you’re on a budget and want to try out a robot vacuum, however, it might be worth it.
