There are several reasons why it’s important to mop the floors regularly. For one thing, it sanitizes the surface (trust me, the floors are a lot dirtier than you think). Not only that, but it helps to reduce allergens such as pet dander and dust, both of which can accumulate quickly. In doing so, you’ll be less likely to experience allergies. On top of all that, it prevents scratches, something that can quickly become an eyesore.
As it is, however, not all mops are the same when it comes to cleaning power. For example, some are more absorbent than others. Some also have features that allow them to clean better. Take spray mops, for instance, they’re convenient in that they allow you to dispense cleaning fluid with the press of a button. For those who don’t mind spending a little more, there are also robot mops that can be controlled remotely. If anything, their popularity has grown tremendously within the past couple of years.
In this post, however, we’ll be focusing on the steam mop—more specifically, the Iwoly M11 Steam Mop. What types of surfaces can you use it on? Does it have any drawbacks? What does it come with? We’ll be addressing these questions and more in our review below!
The Iwoly M11 Steam Mop Cleaner
Iwoly is a relatively new brand that has popped up recently. Aside from steam mops, they also sell vacuum cleaners, which can be found on Amazon. Unfortunately, not much is known about the company other than the fact that they opened their Amazon store earlier this year. As far as we can tell, that’s the only place that you can find their products.
The M11 Steam Mop comes with a one-touch digital control that lets you customize the steam level to your specific needs. Located on the handle, you can easily switch modes without having to bend over. Featuring two mop pads, it can be used on tile, hardwood, laminate, vinyl, marble, and more. In fact, it even comes with a glider so that you can use it on your carpet. Another great thing about its design is that it can stand on its own. In other words, it takes up very little storage space!
The Iwoly M11 comes with a few extras out of the box. Here’s a complete list of what you’ll get:
- 1 Main Body With Tank
- 1 Handle
- 2 Mop Pads
- 1 Carpet Glider
- 1 Measuring Cup
The M11 basically consists of two main parts—the body and the handle. To get started, insert the handle into the base. From there, open the tank lid and fill it with water (it’s important that you only use water). Close the lid when you’re done and press on the on/off button on the handle. Wait for it to warm up (approx. 45 seconds) and you’re ready to go.
As with all steam mops, it also comes with mop pads that are to be attached to the bottom. Since it only uses one pad at a time, you’ll have one extra. In terms of attachment, simply align it to the base and press down; the velcro will secure it in place.
Aside from the pads, you also get two accessories, a measuring cup that makes filling the tank easier and a carpet glider, which allows you to use the steam mop on carpet. Just place the mop head on it and you’ll be able to glide it across with ease.
Note: The Iwoly M11 is a corded steam mop aka it doesn’t come with a separate battery. To use it, you have to plug it into a wall outlet.
Build Quality of the Iwoly M11 Steam Mop Cleaner
The Iwoly M11 is mostly made of plastic—this includes the handle, water tank, and base. The only thing that isn’t plastic is the handle, which is constructed out of metal. In other words, the mop can crack and break if it falls to the ground. The good news, though, is that it does stand on its own so the chances of that happening are lower than your average mop. Still, it’s a good idea to be careful when you’re using it.
As for the pads that you use with the mop, they’re made of soft, microfiber material. Not only are they absorbent, but they’re also gentle so that they won’t damage your floors. The best part of all…they’re reusable. Like your regular towels, they can be put in the washing machine once they’re dirty. As long as you don’t dry the pads with the dryer, they should withstand many months of use. Remember, you also get an extra pad with the mop!
Potential Drawbacks of the Iwoly M11 Steam Mop Cleaner
What are some bad things about the Iwoly M11 Steam Mop? Here’s what you need to know:
Not That Great For Deep Cleaning
The M11 isn’t suited for deep cleaning. For one thing, it’s almost impossible to scrub the floor with the mop pad. Not to mention that you won’t be able to remove stains without using a cleaner. Just a few things to consider before you decide to get the steam mop!
Handle Doesn’t Always Stay In Place
The steam mop comes with an extendable handle—that is, you can easily change the height by twisting and pulling the pole. The only thing is that the clamp that holds it in place doesn’t always keep in place. In some cases, it will undo itself while you’re mopping, which defeats the point. This seems to be an issue for many mops with extendable handles so it’s not just specific to the M11.
The Cord Could Be Longer
The Iwoly M11 isn’t cordless; you have to plug it into a power outlet. As it is, however, the cord is rather short. Depending on the layout of your room, you may have to replug it several times into different outlets.
Problems With the High Steam Setting
The steam mop comes with a couple of settings and while they work, the “high steam” function seems to be finicky. That is, some people have reported that it releases too much steam to the point where small puddles will appear on the floor. As you can imagine, that can easily lead to water damage.
Mop Head Not the Best For Corners
The mop head isn’t that great for corners and edges. Ultimately, this is due to how it’s shaped—you simply can’t fit it into those kinds of spaces. In other words, you’ll have to go over those areas again once you’re done steaming the rest of the room, which will add to your workload.
Streak Marks Are a Possibility
There’s always a chance that the M11 will leave streak marks on the floor. At the end of the day, it depends on the type of floor that you have. With that said, you can prevent them by changing the pad frequently (since you get two, you can alternate between them while you’re cleaning). Remember, you can get extra pads as well.
Unlike some of the bigger brands, Iwoly doesn’t seem to have a dedicated customer service team. What this means is that if you run into any problems with the mop, you might have to wait a while to get a reply. In fact, some people have never even received a reply.
Does It Clean Well?
The steam function works like it’s supposed to. With the press of a button, the mop will release hot steam onto the floor, which will effectively sanitize the surface (the heat kills bacteria). It doesn’t use that much water either so one tank of water will last you a while.
That’s just the sanitizing feature, though. As for the actual cleaning, that’s on the mop pad. Dampened with water, it will remove small particles such as dirt, crumbs, dust, and pet hair. Larger debris, however, may not always be picked up. To prevent this, it’s highly recommended that you use the M11 after vacuuming the room.
Overall, it’s a decent machine. The steam function is great for sanitizing and the microfiber pads are enough to get rid of most debris. Keep in mind, however, that it’s a steam cleaner first, wet mop second. For one thing, all you’ll be using is water—so you can’t expect it to use it for all messes.
Who Would I Recommend The Iwoly M11 Steam Cleaner To?
- Those who want to sanitize their hard floors
- Those who don’t want to rely on cleaning solutions
- Those who don’t want to use disposable mop pads
Cost and Pricing Information
The Iwoly M11 Steam Mop Cleaner sells for $119.99 on Amazon. While it isn’t particularly expensive, it’s not the cheapest either. In fact, there are some other steam mops that you can get for under $100 if you look around. At least it comes with free shipping!
As far as extra pads go, it doesn’t seem like you can get them from their Amazon shop. With that said, you can probably ask the company for additional ones—just be prepared to pay a fee.
…and that’s about it for things that you have to buy for the mop. Remember, it’s a steam cleaner so all you have to use is water. In fact, you should only be using water!
The Iwoly M11 is a decent steam cleaner. Safe for most hard floors, it comes with two steam settings so that you can customize it to your needs. The handle is also extendable, which means that you’ll be able to clean hard-to-reach areas easily. The pads are also machine washable for easy cleaning. Keep in mind, however, that it’s a steamer cleaner first and mop second. That is, it’s not the best thing to use if you want to give the floors a deep clean. Some people have also experienced streak marks with the machine, though it depends on the type of floor that you have.
