Hoover ONEPWR FloorMate Jet Cordless Hard Floor Cleaner Review

The floor is something that you have to clean constantly. After all, things can build up—and by things, I mean dirt, hair, dust, food crumbs…you name it. Before you know it, you’ll be surrounded by filth! Not only is that gross, but it can have a negative impact on your health. So for the sake of you and your family, make sure that you don’t ignore your chores!

With hard floors, the easiest way to clean is to use a mop. Don’t forget to vacuum as well; it’ll help to get rid of loose debris. In fact, there are many 2-in-1 machines that let you do both things at once! That way, you get to save time. Keep in mind, however, that they’re not compatible with all floors. For example, they’re generally not recommended for carpeted areas since well…carpet generally doesn’t do all that well with water.

For other surfaces, such as hardwood and laminate, though, they’re great. In fact, we’ll be talking about one of these machines in this post—the Hoover FloorMate Jet Hard Floor Cleaner. What kind of features does it have? Does it come with any attachment parts? How versatile is it? We’ll be addressing all these things and more in our review. By the end of it, you should be able to determine whether or not it’d be worth it for you!

The Hoover FloorMate Jet Cordless Hard Floor Cleaner

Hoover has been around since the early 1900s. Since then, they’ve released numerous items from carpet cleaners to laundry products. With that said, they’re best known for their vacuum cleaners. If anything, the brand name has become synonymous with vacuuming in many parts of Europe—that’s how popular they are. Perhaps even more interesting, is the fact that they also manufacture appliances such as refrigerators and dishwashers in other parts of the world!

The Hoover FloorMate Jet is a cordless cleaner that’s designed to vacuum and wash your floors at the same time. Featuring powerful lithium-ion technology, it can be used on multiple surfaces including tile, sealed hardwood, vinyl, and laminate. What’s more, is that it comes with an easy-to-use nozzle and trigger system. In other words, you’ll have full control of where you want the cleaning solution to go. When you’re done, just remove the tank and dump out the dirty water!

What’s Included With the Hoover ONEPWR?

Aside from the cleaner itself, you also get a few items:

• 1 Bottle of Cleaning Solution (8 oz)
• 1 Battery and Charger

Assembly: Like most floor cleaners, the Hoover ONEPWR comes as multiple parts. With that said, it’s fairly easy to put together. Start by pushing the handle down into the body- it should click in place. From there, install the battery into the battery compartment. Next, you have to fill up the tank. To do that, remove it from the back of the unit. Take off the cap and proceed to fill it with water and the cleaning solution (there are two separate fill lines). When you’re finished, replace the cap and put the tank back into the body. It’s highly recommended that you use the measuring cup that’s provided with the cleaner.

As listed above, you get one brush roll with the floor cleaner. Basically, it’ll spin when you’re vacuuming the floor. In doing so, it’ll pick up dirt and debris. As you can imagine, though, it will get grimy after a while and that’s what the tray is for—you use it to rinse and clean the roller brush.

You also get one bottle of cleaning solution. Keep in mind, however, that it’s rather small so you’ll probably have to buy more eventually. Like we said earlier, it just goes into the tank.

Last but not least, you get a charger for the 3.0 Ah battery. To fully charge it, you’re looking at around 3-3.5 hours.

Build Quality of the Hoover ONEPWR FloorMate Cleaner

The Hoover ONEPWR is mostly made of plastic, with the exception of the stick portion, which is made from some sort of metal. Despite that, the unit is fairly high quality; it doesn’t feel cheap. The plastic has a bit of weight to it as well so it’s not too flimsy. As for the on-demand trigger, it seems well designed. It’s located on the bottom of the handle whereas the LED display is on the top. Having said all that, you probably wouldn’t want it to fall onto the ground. While the plastic is durable, there’s always a chance that it can crack with impact.

As for the roller brush—it’s decent. For one thing, it’s very soft so that you won’t have to worry about it damaging your floors. Because of that, however, it’s also not the best thing to scrub your floors with (more on this later).

Some Drawbacks with the Hoover ONEPWR FloorMate Cleaner

Here are a few things that you might want to know about the Hoover ONEPWR before getting it:

Battery Life Could Be Better

As is the case with most cordless devices, the battery doesn’t last that long. Unless you live in a small apartment, you’ll have to recharge it several times to clean the whole area, which takes up extra time. With that said, at least you can charge the battery separately so that it’s a tad more convenient.

It’s Not That Great For Heavy Duty Cleaning 

As a vacuum, it works fairly well. The “mop” feature, however, is a bit disappointing. After all, the roller brush is soft. Because of that, it isn’t actually capable of scrubbing the floor. For stains and whatnot, you’ll have better luck using just a wet cloth. If only they had a stiffer brush option for that purpose…

You Can’t Clean the Edges of the Floor

The way the cleaner is designed, it’s almost impossible to clean the edges of the floor. The roller brush simply won’t be able to reach those areas—so you’ll likely have to go over those spots again with a manual mop afterward, which can be a hassle.

It’s on the Heavy Side 

The Hoover FloorMate isn’t exactly compact. In fact, it’s fairly bulky, especially the bottom portion. Given that, it’s not surprising to know that it’s also on the heavy side. This makes it more difficult to move around the house. If you have stairs, that’ll be tricky as well. With that said, it does turn and twist readily so it’s not that hard to maneuver.

Cleaning the Tank and Brush Can be Tedious

With this cleaner, you have to clean the roller brush and dirty water tank right away—otherwise, you won’t be able to use it next time. As it is, however, there are a number of steps to it; it’s not something that you can do in just a couple of minutes so keep that in mind.

It Leaves A Bit of Water On the Floor

While it mops and vacuums at the same time, the latter doesn’t get rid of all the water/cleaner (the suction doesn’t work for water). In other words, there’s a high chance that you’ll be left with wet floors. Unless you want to wait for it to dry, you’ll have to dry it yourself with a towel.

Does It Clean Well?

Vacuuming

The vacuum works better than the mop feature as mentioned earlier. Having said that, it’s a wet vacuum—that is, it works better for wet messes. For example, it’s great for spilled cereal but you might not get the same results with say, dry crumbs or pet hair (you’ll want to use a normal vacuum for those things). You can always wet everything with a spray bottle so that the vacuum will pick it up but that kind of defeats the purpose of using a floor cleaner in the first place. Another thing that’s worth mentioning is that it comes with an ECON setting that uses less energy. Because of that, however, it’s even weaker. Personally, I wouldn’t recommend that setting.

Mopping

Like we said earlier, the roller brush doesn’t actually do any scrubbing. It’ll wipe your floors with water and cleaner and that’s about it…so don’t expect it to get rid of any stains. At best, it’ll remove the dust and dirt that’s accumulated on the surface. You also have to make sure that you clean the brush properly, otherwise, it’ll still be dirty the next time you use it.

Overall, I would say that the ONEPWR FloorMate is a good option if you deal with wet messes regularly. I wouldn’t replace a regular vacuum cleaner with it, though, since it isn’t all that great at picking up dry debris. Its mopping ability is also average at best.

Cost and Pricing Information

The Hoover ONEPWR FloorMate Floor Cleaner retails for $299.99. This might seem expensive but it’s actually in the ballpark for most 2-in-1 cleaners. If you can wait, it also goes on sale from time to time on Amazon. You don’t have to pay shipping and returns are free if you change your mind afterward.

Aside from the actual unit, you’ll also have to buy more cleaner at some point. You can find them on their Amazon store for around ~$10 a bottle. Some people have had success with natural cleaners as well so you can always play around with that. Another thing that you might want to buy is an extra battery. That way, you won’t have to recharge it every time the battery dies—you can just swap it.

As for their roller brushes, it seems like you actually have to contact Hoover for a replacement—you can’t just buy an extra from their store.

The Hoover ONEPWR FloorMate is a good option if you’re looking for a wet vacuum. It’s great for a variety of hard surfaces and it comes with a trigger that allows you to control where you want the cleaning solution to go. Keep in mind, however, that it isn’t the same as a regular vacuum. It might be good for wet messes, but you’ll probably run into problems when it comes to dry particles. Another thing is battery life. Like most cordless floor cleaners, it doesn’t last all that long. Unless you live in a small studio apartment, you’ll have to recharge it constantly while you’re cleaning. Plus, the roller brush doesn’t actually scrub the floor so it’s not ideal for removing stains.
