Make a habit of cleaning the house regularly—that way, dirt, etc won’t have a chance to build up. For example, it helps to vacuum every other day or so. Mopping is also important as it’ll get rid of the grime that’s on the floor. And depending on the type of floor that you have, you might also be able to use a steam cleaner. Not only will it clean, but it’ll sanitize the surface as well with hot water vapor.

Thinking of getting one? How about the Hoover Pet Steam Mop? If anything, it’s made for pet owners.

How easy is it to use? Does it come with any accessories? What are some of its drawbacks? Read on to find out!

The Hoover Complete Pet Steam Mop

Hoover is one of the most trusted household brands in the world. Based in North Carolina, they manufacture a variety of home cleaning products including vacuum cleaners, carpet cleaners, mops, and more. Where can you find their products? On Amazon, Walmart, Target, Best Buy—you name it. On top of that, they also have an official store, which you can order from.

Product Description

The Hoover Complete Pet Steam Mop, as its name implies, is designed for pet owners. Not only will it sanitize your floors, but it’ll deodorize them as well, leaving you with a fresh-smelling home. And if you want, you can use the mop for other surfaces as well—all you have to do is switch the attachment. In fact, you can even use it as a handheld steamer. That way, you’ll be able to clean windows, stove-tops, upholstery, etc.

What’s In the Box?

Here’s a list of items that you’ll get with the Hoover Complete Pet Steam Mop.

  • 1 Main Body and Hose
  • 2 Mop Pads
  • 1 Tool Storage Bag and Accessories

Assembly: Insert the body into the floor head until it clicks into place. Next, insert the handle—you should also hear a click. From there, attach one of the mop pads onto the bottom. Altogether, it shouldn’t take you more than a few minutes.

First, let’s have a look at the body. Like most steam mops, that’s where the water tank is located. And for your convenience, it is removable so you can fill it up at the sink. As far as the hose goes, you can use it if you want to use the mop as a handheld cleaner.

Then there are the mop pads, which you’ll be using to clean the floors with. To attach them, place them on the floor with the white side facing up. Next, place the steam mop onto the pad—the mop head should be completely covered with the cloth.

Last but not least, you have the various accessories. More specifically, it comes with two plastic brushes, a steel wire brush, a grout brush, a hard surface squeegee, an upholstery cloth, an angled crevice tool, a scraper tool, and a carpet glider. There’s also a tool storage bag that you can use to keep everything together—that way, you won’t have to worry about losing any of the pieces.

Build Quality

Steam mops, like all products, vary in terms of quality. That’s why it’s so important to do your research beforehand. After all, who wants to spend money on something that will fall apart after a couple of uses? Anyway, in terms of what to look for, you want to go for something with a metal pole (as opposed to plastic) as they tend to be more durable. As for the plastic, the thicker it is the better—it means that it won’t crack as easily.

How Well Built Is the Hoover Complete Pet Steam Mop?

This particular steam mop does have a metal pole. Also, the plastic is on the durable side. In other words, it shouldn’t crack or break with just a few uses. The accessories, on the other hand, are made of a thinner plastic material, so you might want to be mindful of that.

As for the mop pads, they’re made of a soft, microfiber material. Not only are they absorbent, but they’re soft and non-abrasive. Also, they’re machine washable so you won’t have to keep buying refills.

A Few Drawbacks

The Hoover Pet Steam Mop does have a few drawbacks, which we will be outlining in this section.

Trigger Has to Be Held Down

The way the steam mop is designed, there’s a trigger on the handle that you have to press down to dispense the steam. Not only is it tiring, but it can actually hurt your hand after a while (remember, you have to drag the mop across the floor too!). Given that, we wouldn’t recommend it if you have hand or wrist issues.

Small Water Tanks

There are two water tanks but they’re both quite tiny. In other words, you’ll have to refill them at some point while you’re mopping. Also, the product doesn’t come with any funnel/cup for you to add water.

Attachment Storage

For those who don’t want to use the tool bag, there are spaces on the back of the steam mop, which you can use to store the attachments. The problem with it, however, is that they don’t snap tightly enough. As a result, they tend to fall off easily when you’re using the machine.

Handheld Unit Is Hard To Use

The handheld unit is effective, however, it isn’t the most convenient to use. For one thing, it’s quite heavy. Not only that, but it’s difficult to put back onto the main body afterward.

Mop Pad Replacements Hard to Find

The mop heads for this particular model are a bit difficult to find, especially if you’re looking for something cheaper from a third-party brand. The good news is that you can always cut them to size!

Mop Pad Isn’t Very Secure

The microfiber pad can and will move when you’re using the steam mop. For example, it might roll to the front when your pushing forward or roll to the back when you’re pulling back. In some cases, it can even fall off altogether! Fortunately, it’s not that hard to put back on, but still, it’s a hassle.

Heat Issues

Some people have said that the steam that comes out at the bottom isn’t very hot. Others, however, have had no problems with it. Given that, there might be some quality issues that affect some units.

How Well Does It Clean?

The steam mop is decent for spot cleaning. For example, you can use it to clean and sanitize your pet’s accidents. Don’t expect to clean the entire floor with it, though. Not only will it be tiring (remember, you have to hold down the trigger for the steam to come out), but it’ll take you a while with all the refilling and pushing that you’ll have to do.

As for the handheld unit, it works well. It might not be the lightest thing to carry around but it gets the job done. The attachments also work the way they should—so we have no major complaints.

Who Would We Recommend It To?

  • Those who have pets
  • Those who want something that can be used on more than just the floor

Cost And Pricing Information

For what it is, the Hoover Complete Pet Steam Mop is quite affordable with a retail price of $99. If you get it on Amazon, shipping is also free. The same with returns—as long as you send it back within the set time frame, you’ll get your money back.

Aside from the main unit itself, there really isn’t much that you need to get. For one thing, you won’t need to get any cleaner since it uses water/steam. Also, it already comes with all the attachments that you need so you won’t have to get any of those either. If anything, the only “refill” that you’ll need to get is the mop pads, which might wear out after a while.

Our Take
The Hoover Complete Pet Steam Mop is a 2-in-1 device in that you can use it as a standalone or handheld unit. In other words, it’s not just for the floor—you can also use it to clean and sanitize other surfaces such as stovetops, walls, windows, etc. What’s more, is that it comes with a variety of attachments, all of which have their own functions. The only thing is that you have to hold down the trigger button for the steam to come out and that can hurt your hand after a while. Also, the water tanks are on the small side so be prepared to refill them when you’re cleaning.
