HOMTOYOU Microfiber Spray Mop Review
How often should floors be mopped? As often as you can, really. If anything, that’s the only way to keep them free of dirt and other debris. This is especially true for high-traffic areas such as kitchens, hallways, and bathrooms.
What type of mop is the best? It depends. For example, steam mops are probably not a good option if you have hardwood floors; the heat and moisture can easily warp and distort the planks. Microfiber mops, on the other hand, tend to be more versatile—that is, they can be used on a variety of surfaces. And that’s why we like to recommend them.
The best part? Some come with a built-in sprayer. In other words, you won’t have to use a separate spray bottle. Just press a button and the cleaner will be dispensed right onto the floor! Convenient, right?
Well, for those who are interested, we’ ’ll be taking a look at the HOMTOYOU Microfiber Spray Mop in this post. How well does the sprayer work? Does it come with any accessories? What about cons—does it have any? Find out by reading our review!
The HOMTOYOU Microfiber Spray Mop
HOMTOYOU is a small brand that you can find on Amazon. And as far as we can tell, they only sell this one product (nothing else comes up if you search their name). That hasn’t stopped people from trying out their spray mop, though. In fact, it has accumulated quite a number of reviews on the site so that has to say something about its popularity, right?
Product Description
The HOMTOYOU Microfiber Spray Mop is exactly what it sounds like—it’s a microfiber mop that comes with a spraying system. Simply squeeze the trigger on the top and the liquid cleaner will come out from the bottom. If you want, you can also adjust the height of the handle so that you won’t have to bend over while you’re cleaning. And despite its name, it actually comes with two different types of mop pads—microfiber pads and chenille pads, the latter of which you can use for dry sweeping.
What’s Included In The Box?
Here’s a list of everything that you’ll get with the HOMTOYOU Microfiber Spray Mop.
- 1 Spray Mop
- 1 Refill Bottle
- 3 Reusable Mop Pads
Assembly: The first thing that you want to do is connect the handle pieces (there are three in total, including the one at the top). Once you’ve done that, you can attach the mop base and mop pad. And that’s all! It’s super simple.
As far as the actual spray mop goes, it’s pretty self-explanatory. The handle with the trigger is at the top while the microfiber pad is at the bottom. For those who are wondering, this particular model does not require batteries. Instead, it’s fully-powered hand-powered (there’s an interior mechanism that engages the spray mist when you press the trigger).
As for the spray bottle, it’s attached to the mop near the bottom. Size-wise, it is on the larger side with a 635ml capacity. Also, it’s removable aka you can take it out from the mop for easy refilling when it comes time to refill it with cleaner.
Last but not least, it comes with three reusable mop pads. More specifically, one microfiber pad and two chenille pads, all of which are machine-washable. That’s right, you can chuck them into the washing machine when you’re done cleaning.
Note: This spray mop doesn’t come with a cleaner so you’ll have to provide that yourself. The good news is that you can pretty much use anything—you’re not limited to a specific cleaning product like the Swiffer. So if you wanted to, you can go the chemical-free route with white vinegar.
Build Quality
This spray mop’s construction is somewhat durable. For one thing, the handle is made of high-quality stainless steel (metal is always better than plastic when it comes to the pole), which makes it both rust-resistant and corrosion-resistant. On top of that, the trigger is made of more durable plastic material so that you won’t have to worry about it breaking even with regular use.
The mop pads are decent in terms of quality as well. The microfiber pads are plush and soft, which makes them ideal for wet mopping and the chenille pads have increased surface area for dusting. And from what people have said, they also seem to hold up well in the wash.
Pros Of the HOMTOYOU Microfiber Spray Mop
Lightweight and Compact: The spray mop is small and compact so you can easily carry it up the stairs, etc. Not only that, but it won’t take up much space when it comes to storage.
Swivel Head: The spray mop comes with a 360-degree swivel head. In other words, you can easily use it to clean around corners, edges, etc.
Environmentally-Friendly: Unlike other mops, this one comes with mop pads that you can wash and reuse. Also, you don’t have to use it with a chemical cleaner.
Highly Versatile: You can use the spray mop on a variety of surfaces from hardwood to laminate.
Scrapper Included: The mop comes with a scrapper that you can use to scrub hair and dirt off the pads. It also snaps onto the handle for easy storage.
A Few Drawbacks
Like all spray mops, however, it does have a few drawbacks (nothing’s perfect, after all!), which we’ll be going over below.
Bottle Is Hard to Take Out
The refillable bottle isn’t the easiest to take out. You really have to pull in order to remove it, and over time, that can weaken the plastic, especially if you do it on a regular basis. The good news though, is that the bottle doesn’t leak, so there’s that.
Not the Best For Deep Cleaning
The mop works, don’t get me wrong, but it’s probably not the best thing to use if you’re trying to deep clean the floors. If anything, it’s better suited for spot-cleaning. For one thing, you really can’t “scrub” with the pads so you won’t be able to get rid of any tough stains.
It’s On the Shorter Side
The spray mop has an adjustable handle, but still, it’s on the shorter side. So if you’re tall, you might still have to hunch over when you clean, which isn’t the best for your back.
Quality Issues
The trigger might be made of a more durable material, but the rest of the mop feels a little “cheap”. Like it might crack or break if you put too much force into it. The foam grip on the handle also looks like it might peel off after a while.
Replacement Mop Pads Hard to Find
Replacement mop pads are hard to find. In fact, they don’t seem to be available at all on Amazon! Given that, it would have been nice if they gave us a few more extra pads. Having said all that, there’s always the option of making your own pads with microfiber towels.
You Can’t Rinse the Mop Pads Easily
Unlike regular mops, you can’t wring out the pad with a bucket of water. The only way to actually rinse it would be to take it off and bring it to the sink. And when you’re finished, you’ll have to put it back on the base.
How Well Does It Clean?
It does the job. Add a bit of cleaner to the tank and it will get rid of dirt, dust, hair, etc (vacuum beforehand for the best results). The only thing is that you can’t really scrub with it, which is why we recommend it for light cleaning only. And here’s a tip—make sure to rinse the mop pad often when you’re mopping, otherwise, you’ll end up making your floors dirtier.
Who Would We Recommend It To?
- Those who’re looking for something for light cleaning
- Those who want something small and compact
- Those who want something with a spraying mechanism
Cost and Pricing Information
The HOMTOYOU Microfiber Spray Mop is very affordable. While it’s currently unavailable on Amazon (at the time of this writing, anyway), it usually retails for $26.99 and that comes with free shipping. And for those who are wondering, many spray mops cost $30+.
You won’t have to buy any specific cleaner for the mop either as you can just use whatever you have in the house. The only problem is that they don’t offer mop pad refills so you’ll have to be a little bit creative with that.
