Homevative Microfiber Spray Mop Review

Life can get messy sometimes. Whether it be muddy paw prints or juice on the floor, there will always be something that needs cleaning up every once in a while. Fortunately, there are many things that can help with this. Not just soap and water, but more innovative tools such as vacuum cleaners and carpet cleaners. Mops are also highly underrated. Lightweight and versatile, they can be used on a variety of surfaces including ceilings and walls. If anything, they have only become more sophisticated in the recent years. For instance, many of them nowadays come with a spray trigger that allows you to dispense cleaning solution onto the ground. The result? Cleaner floors.

On this page, we’ll be going over a specific type of spray mop—the Homevative Microfiber Spray Mop. As you can tell by its name, it comes with a microfiber pad that does most of all the cleaning. But how effective is it really when it comes to messes? Is it made out of a sturdy material? What are some of its advantages over other mops? These are all points that we will be discussing below. Wondering whether or not it’s worth buying? Hopefully, you’ll have your answer by the end of the post.

Homevative Microfiber Spray Mop

Homevative is committed to improving the way things are done around the house. Over the past several years, the company has produced a variety of cleaning tools, all of which are designed to be affordable and easy to use. Today, their most popular products include the microfiber spray mop kit and the stainless steel microfiber floor mop kit, both of which are available for purchase on Amazon. As of 2018, they have had more than 5,000 happy customers with over 75 positive reviews.

The Homevative Microfiber Spray Mop makes cleaning a breeze. With its responsive spray nozzle, you’ll be able to dispense as much or as little cleaner as you want onto the floors; in other words, you won’t have to worry about having to mop up any excess water. Simply fill the refillable bottle with your favorite solution, insert it into the unit, and spray away—the microfiber pads at the bottom will then take over the job of picking up debris from the ground. Equipped with a 360° swivel head, cleaning around furniture and other household objects will also be a piece of cake. Designed for hard floors, it can safely be used for laminate, marble, wood, tile, and linoleum.

What’s Included

The Homevative Microfiber Spray Mop comes with all that you need out of the box. Aside from the unit itself, it also includes:

  • 2 Reusable Bottles
  • 3 Reusable Carbon Fiber Infused Microfiber Pads
  • 1 Precision Detailer Brush

The mop is fairly easy to assemble; just attach the different sections of the handle together before inserting it into the lower body. In case you want something to refer to, though, it does come with proper instructions.

As indicated above, the kit comes with two refillable bottles that are used for holding the cleaning solution. Seeing as how you only need to use one at a time, you’ll have an extra for when the first one bites the dust. To use it for spraying, add a cleaner of your choice into the bottle (ensuring that the cap is twisted closed) and insert it back into the mop unit. From there, you should be able to spray using the manual trigger on the handle.

Aside from that, it also comes with three carbon fiber infused microfiber pads that serve to remove dirt and grime from the floor. Prior to cleaning, you’ll want to attach a fresh one onto the mop head. As it is, the velcro on the underside is quite strong so you shouldn’t have issues with it coming off. After you’re done, you can take it off and put it into the wash; the way it’s designed, it is meant to be reused multiple times. To prevent it from shrinking, however, you should avoid using the dryer. Instead, you should let it air dry.

Lastly, the set includes a precision detailer brush, which is ideal for scrubbing hair off of the pad between uses. According to the product description, it is also great at getting rid of caked-on grime from the floors and walls.

Build Quality

Mops are not made equal. For one thing, you always want to examine its build and quality. What materials is it built from? How sturdy is it? Does it seem like it would last a long time? These are all things that you should be asking yourself. After all, you want to make sure that what you’re buying is a quality product; there’s no point in spending money on something that’s only going to last you a couple of weeks.

As with most mops, the Homevative is made out of plastic and metal. To be more specific, the shaft is built out of lightweight aluminium, while the rest of the unit is plastic. In addition to the head, which features the spray nozzle, the lower body includes the water bottle, which sits towards the middle. To ensure that there are no leakages, several fortified silicon rings are also installed at different stress points. If you’re wondering how heavy the mop is, it is quite light—probably under two pounds.

The pads are large and thick, perhaps more so than most of the other ones out there. The best part of all, however, is the fact that they are machine washable. Unlike the Swiffer, where you have to constantly buy refills, the Homevative Spray Mop uses reusable pads, which can be thrown into the wash. Given that you don’t put them in the dryer, one can easily be used dozens of times. With that said, you will have to replace them eventually—perhaps in several weeks or a few months; it really depends on how often you’re cleaning the floor with the mop.

The bottles are also sturdy despite being made out of plastic. Unless you’re throwing them down your stairs, you probably won’t have to worry about them breaking or cracking. To fill the container, just open the lid, and pour in the cleaning fluid through the opening. If you want, you can even use both of the bottles that they give you at the same time; for instance, you can fill one with cleaner for tile and the other with cleaner for hardwood floors.

Overall, the spray mop is decently put together. Obviously, though, the quality will be lower than what you’d get from some of the more expensive models. With that said, I wouldn’t describe it as being “flimsy.” If anything, it’s just a bit simplistic and lightweight, which can actually be a good thing, depending on what you’re looking for.

Some Possible Issues with the Homevative Microfiber Spray Mop

It’s important to note that there are a few known issues with the mop. For starters, the bottle can be difficult to remove and put back into the unit. Sometimes, if you use too much force, it will even start to leak. As it is, the instructions provided are really not that helpful. Here’s a tip, though—to get it out, you’ll want to pull hard along the shaft while squeezing the bottle from the sides. Speaking of which, the bottle itself is also relatively small (they hold approximately one pint of fluid). If you have a large area to clean, you’ll probably have to refill it constantly.

After a while, the mop may also stop spraying. Unfortunately, it can be hard to predict when this will happen. For some people, the spraying mechanism fails after a few uses; for others, it may last up to several months. In the end, it depends on the individual unit. Considering this, the issue may have something to do with quality control. One thing’s for sure though—the mop will no longer be able to clean effectively as it’ll essentially turn into a dry dust mop.

Over time, the plastic, which isn’t too fragile nor too sturdy, can also break. More often than not, it begins with a crack down the top handle. As you can probably imagine, there are many possible causes for this. For instance, the handle may snap if too much force is applied during mopping; there is also a possibility that it will break if the mop falls onto the ground. If you want the mop to last longer, you might want to avoid using it for “heavy duty” cleaning. It might be worth noting, however, that Homevative does stand by their products with a lifetime guarantee (that might be something that you want to look into if you run into issues).

Depending on the unit, there may also be leaks. As mentioned earlier, this tends to happen if the reusable bottle is not put properly back into place. If you experience this problem, you’ll want to swap the bottle for a new one. If the issue continues even with the change, there’s probably a crack somewhere on the unit itself. Alas, that will be difficult to fix for the most of us.

Last but not least, the mop head can be hard to maneuver. Ultimately, this is due to how the joint is designed. Instead of being a ball joint, which would allow it to swivel 360 degrees, the joint is semi-fixed, which makes it prone to tilting from the side. As a result, you always have to “try” to keep it flat and level on the floor while you’re using it.

Does it Clean Well?

Despite its shortcomings, the Homevative Microfiber Spray Mop is capable of cleaning the floors. As a matter of fact, the pads pick up a considerable amount of dirt and debris; it even traps pet hair! Having said that, you will have to rinse and clean them from time to time when you’re cleaning—that is, unless you have enough pads to last you through the entire mopping session! If you just want to get rid of the hair and dirt that is stuck on the microfiber pad, you can always make use of the brush tool that they provide you with. As a general rule, though, you’ll want to rinse or swap the pad when it no longer picks up anything from the floor.

The spraying mechanism is also useful. The way it works, it dispenses an even layer of cleaning solution a few feet in front of the mop head, which allows you to properly clean the floor ahead. For the best results, you’ll want to make sure to use a suitable cleaner for your floor type (you can even just use water and vinegar).

To summarize, the spray mop is good for cleaning up a variety of things from pet hair to spills. Highly versatile, it can be used on most hard floor surfaces including tile, hardwood, marble, and stone. Given that its main highlight is the spraying mechanism, you’ll likely want to use it wet, not dry—though technically you could use it for getting rid of dust. Considering how compact it is, it would be ideal for those who want something that will take up minimal space in storage; for instance, those who live in small apartments, or studios. However, it can also be great for small messes in houses, offices, and schools.

Cost and Pricing Information

The Homevative Microfiber Spray Mop is rather affordable. In fact, it’s one of the cheaper spray mops that are out there on the market right now. At the time of this writing, the kit sells for $29.95 on Amazon (the only retailer that sells it as far as we know). How does its price compare to that of some of its competitors? To give you an idea, Bona Stone sells a similar spray mop for $39.97 whereas Hinnhomy has one for $25.99. As you can see from that, it is priced quite competitively.

In terms of refills, you will need to get more of their microfiber pads eventually—nothing to the extent of Swiffer, though. Seeing as how the kit comes with two extras, you likely won’t have to get any anytime soon (unless you want to have a few more on hand, which is never a bad thing). Fortunately, their reusable pads aren’t that expensive; you can generally get a pack of four for $12.99. As far as we can tell, however, they are currently unavailable on Amazon.

Aside from the pads, there’s really nothing else that you’ll need to get in the long run—aside from the cleaning solution, anyway. Even when you include that, though, the long-term costs associated with using the mop are minimal. If anything, you just have to make sure that it doesn’t break with repetitive use.

Homevative Microfiber Spray Mop Overall – Is It Worth It?

Our Take
The Homevative Spray Mop comes with a handy mechanism that allows you to dispense cleaning solution onto the floor. In addition to that, it comes with absorbent pads that can be used to pick up dirt, debris, liquids, and pet hair. Suitable for most hard floor types, the lightweight mop is generally easy to use, even for those who have trouble with their backs. There are a few things that you might want to consider before buying it, though. For instance, the plastic tends to break with time; there is also a chance that the mop can stop spraying. Some people have also experienced issues with leaking, although this doesn’t appear to happen that often. Overall, however, it is a solid mop that is capable of getting the job done.
