The H2O Mop X5 Basic Mop

The H2O X5 Mop is manufactured by Thane, a company that also sells fitness, beauty, self-improvement, and entertainment products, among other things. Aside from the X5, they also sell an H2O HD and H2O SteamFX Pro model, both of which are designed to improve your steam cleaning experience.

Product Description

The H2O X5 Steam Mop is a 5-in-1 cleaner that’s specifically designed for hard floors, carpets, windows, and garments. In addition to that, it can be used as a handheld unit. You can use it in bathrooms, bedrooms, garages, kitchens, offices, you name it. All you have to do is press the trigger and steam will come out from the nozzle below. And yes, it comes with a variety of accessories from brushes to dusters.

What’s Included In The Box?

Assembly: Attach the mop head to the main body; it should lock into place. Next, insert the extension handle. From there, attach the curved handle at the top. The cord can then be inserted into the center channel for your convenience. Last but not least, attach a mop pad to the bottom; there are velcro strips that will hold it in place.

As far as the mop goes, it consists of three main parts—the handle, the water tank, and the mop head. To add water, open the black cap. Keep in mind that the tank isn’t removable so you’ll have to use the provided measuring cup. In terms of the mop head, it’s pretty straightforward. Basically, it’s where the mop pad goes if you plan on cleaning the floor.

And as listed above, it comes with two types of pads—one for the floor and another for clothes. Both are white and are made of a microfiber material.

Then there’s the extension hose. You can use it with the other accessories by attaching it to the bottom, where the mop head usually goes. Speaking of accessories, the X5 also comes with a carpet glider, window cleaning tool with a squeegee, limescale cleaning pin, round brush, and two dusters.

Note: Detach the main body from the handle and mop head if you want to use the X5 as a handheld unit (the add-ons can be attached to the bottom).

Build Quality

Not all mops are as durable as they look. That’s why it’s always a good idea to look at them in-store before making a purchase. That way, you can actually see and feel what it’s like (assuming that they have a display model for you to check out). For one thing, the handle/pole should be made of metal, ideally aluminum. You want to avoid those that are made of plastic as they tend to break easily.

How Well Made Is the H2o X5 Steam Mop?

The H2O X5 steam mop is mostly plastic, except for the pole, which is made of metal (it doesn’t specify which kind). This means that it can crack and break with repeated use. Similarly, the add ons (brushes, squeegees, etc) are also made of plastic.

As for the mop cloths, they’re decent. They could be a little thicker but they’re enough to do the job.

Pros of the H2O X5 Steam Mop

Easy to Maneuver: The H2O X5 comes with a swivel head that allows you to wave in and out of table legs, etc. Its triangular cleaning source also means that you can easily get into corners and edges.

It Heats Up Quickly: The steam mop heats up very quickly once you plug it in (about 10 seconds or so).

It Comes With Many Tools: One great thing about the X5 is that it comes with many accessories so you can use it to clean various areas of the house.

A Few Drawbacks

Here are a few issues that people have had with the H2o X5 Steam Mop:

Water Tank Requires Constant Refilling 

The water tank isn’t very big so you will have to replenish it often (depending on how you use it, you might find the cord to get in the way). I’d say that you can probably get around 10 minutes of runtime per full tank.

You’ll Need More Mop Pads 

The X5 only comes with one mop pad, which limits your ability to clean efficiently (they have to be changed frequently while you’re cleaning). For this reason, we highly recommend that you get some extras; it’ll make your cleaning that much easier.

Not That Great For Windows

The X5 comes with a squeegee so you can also use it on windows but honestly, it doesn’t work that well. For one thing, you have to hold the body of the unit and the wand while you’re cleaning and that can get tiring after a while.

Cord Issues

The cord is rather short compared to other steam mops (you’ll have to switch outlets frequently) and while it can be wrapped around the holder, its stiffness makes it a little difficult. Just some things that can be improved on.

Small Mop Head 

The H2O X5 has a small head, which means that it’ll take you longer to mop. Fortunately, its maneuverability (it has a swiveling head) makes up for it.

It’s a Little Too Wet

The X5 produces a lot of steam and by that, we mean that your floor will be wet afterward—perhaps a little too wet. Given that, it’s probably not a good idea to use it if you have unsealed floors as you won’t want the moisture seeping into the material.

Quality Could Be Better

We mentioned this briefly in the previous section but the quality of the mop could be better. In fact, several people have said that theirs came apart after a while. Some have also had issues with the lock not locking.

Missing Items

Make sure to check that you have everything. Some people have said that their mop came with missing mops, accessories, etc.

How Well Does It Clean?

The X5 produces a good amount of steam so you won’t have to worry about not being able to clean the floor properly. In fact, you can probably use it for sticky messes as well. Like we said earlier, though, it will leave your floor wet so be careful with that. Also, not all of the accessories work that well; some will be better than others and honestly, you just have to try and see which works for you.

The mop pad, however, does do a decent job of picking up dirt, crumbs, dust, etc. Keep in mind, however, that you will have to switch it out often. Not only will it get dirty, but it’ll get wet fast and the last thing that you want is to wipe with an overly wet pad.

The H2O X5 Steam Mop retails for $99.99. While this might seem pricey, keep in mind that it comes with various accessories, most of which are not included with cheaper models. Also, shipping is free.
