Fuller Brush Electrostatic Carpet and Floor Sweeper Review
You’d be surprised just how dirty your floor is. After all, debris can accumulate quickly—this is especially true if you have pets or little ones. Take the kitchen floor for example, it’s not uncommon for it to be covered with food crumbs.
That’s why it’s so important to clean the floor. You don’t want to give germs a chance to multiply because let’s face it—the last thing that you want is to track them all over the house. The good news is that cleaning the floor isn’t as tedious as it used to be. Nowadays, there are many tools that we can rely on such as the vacuum and mop.
Sweepers are great as well. An upgrade from the regular broom, they allow you to remove dirt, dust, and other debris from the floor with ease. Sure, they might not be as popular as vacuums or mops but that doesn’t mean that they’re not worth getting. If anything, they’re a wonderful cleaning tool.
In this post, we’ll be taking a look at the Fuller Brush Electrostatic Carpet and Floor Sweeper. How well does it work? Is it easy to maneuver? What can you use it on? Read our review for the answers!
The Fuller Brush Electrostatic Carpet and Floor Sweeper
The Fuller Brush Company sells various types of cleaning products from sweepers to cleaning sponges. Founded in 1906, they’ve been around for more than 100 years. Aside from their official website, which has all of their products, they also have an Amazon store. In fact, they’ve earned themselves quite a reputation on the site with many positive reviews.
Product Description: The Electrostatic Carpet and Floor Sweeper is designed to lift crumbs, pet hair, debris, dust, and more, from the floor. Featuring high-quality bristles, it can be used on most surfaces including tile, hardwood, low pile carpet—all with minimal effort. There’s even a vinyl blade rotor that you can use to clean up messy food. On top of all that, it’s both compact and portable. Did we also mention that it’s available in multiple colors?
What’s Included
Here’s what you’ll get out of the box:
- 3 Handle Pieces
- 1 Sweeper Base
- 1 Roller Brush
- 2 Dust Trays
- 1 Small Cleaning Comb
Assembly: Start by attaching the three handle pieces together. From there, connect the bottom part to the sweeper base. It shouldn’t take more than a couple of minutes tops to get everything done. You can always refer to the instruction manual as well, if necessary.
As you can see from the list, the sweeper comes with everything that you need to use it. Put together, the handle measures approximately 36″. For those who are curious, it’s not extendable so keep that in mind before getting it.
Besides that, you get one roller brush. Basically, it’s the thing that’ll be removing things from the floor. Seeing as how it’s an essential part, you wouldn’t want to lose it. Without it, you wouldn’t be able to use the sweeper anymore. To clean it, use the small cleaning clomb that they provide you with.
Last but not least, there are two dust bin compartments. After all, the dirt and grime have to go somewhere. To empty it, hold the sweeper over a trash can (the unit is fairly lightweight) and push down on the black trays. They’ll pop open so that you can remove the contents, which usually comes out as a clump. There’s no need to wrangle the entire thing over the trash can. It’s quick and convenient!
Build Quality of the Fuller Brush Electrostatic Carpet and Floor Sweeper
When it comes to cleaning tools, you don’t want to cheap out on materials. After all, it’s something that you’ll be using regularly. You want it to last a long time. Generally speaking, it’s a good idea to pick something that has a metal handle (aluminum or stainless steel are best). The less plastic the better as it tends to be fairly fragile.
Now you might be wondering, how well made is the Fuller Brush sweeper? The answer is—it’s quite sturdy. For one thing, it’s made with an almost indestructible metal housing. Not only is the base metal, but the handle is metal as well. At the same time, there’s a soft vinyl bumper on the base so you won’t have to worry about damaging your walls or furniture.
The brush itself is also of decent quality. The bristles are somewhat stiff, but not to the point where they’d hurt your floors. While the roller brush isn’t removable (it’s stuck to the base), you can clean it with the brush that they provide you with. We have no major complaints with it.
Potential Drawbacks
The Fuller Brush sweeper is sturdy and well built, however, it does have a few “cons.” We’ll be going over some of them below.
Not That Great For Pet Hair
The sweeper is capable of removing pet hair but it’s probably not the best thing to use. Chances are, you’ll still have some leftover on the floor even after sweeping it several times. Even when it does pick the hair up, there’s a high chance that it’ll get caught in the brushes. At least you can remove them with the small comb tool that they give you.
Handle Can Come Loose
The three-piece handle has a tendency of loosening itself after a while. You can screw it back together easily but it can be annoying. According to some of the Amazon reviews, it seems to be a pretty common issue. It’s also worth mentioning that the handle is rather small diameter-wise—don’t expect it to be like a mop handle!
The Sweeper Isn’t Very Big
The sweeper brush isn’t that big (it looks bigger than it is in photos)—the base measures a little under 7”. Sure, you might be able to get into small spaces easily, but it also means that it’ll take you a while to clean a large area. For small jobs, however, it does the trick.
Handle Is A Little Short
The handle can be a little short if you’re on the tall side. If that’s the case, you’ll have to use it while bending over. If anything, that’ll make sweeping more uncomfortable than it needs to be. For shorter individuals, however, it shouldn’t be a problem.
It Works Better On Carpet Than Hard Floors
The sweeper works on both hard floors and carpet but it definitely does a better job on the latter (it also works for low-pile rugs). For smooth surfaces such as hardwood and tile, it’ll sometimes just push the dust and dirt around (it has to physically grab onto the particles when contacting the brush otherwise it’ll just push them away). Considering that, you might want to go for something else if you have hard floors.
It’s Not Great For Corners and Crevices
The particular sweeper isn’t all that great for corners. There are brushes on the sides but they don’t extend far enough out to actually do anything productive. What this means is that you will have to get out your broom for those areas. The same thing goes for crevices—you likely won’t be able to clean them as well as you want to.
Does It Clean Well?
The sweeper is great if you’re trying to remove dirt and other loose debris from carpet. If you have hard floors, however, you’re probably going to be disappointed. Like we said earlier, it simply isn’t able to grab onto particles on smooth surfaces—it’ll push them around instead.
Even if you have carpet, however, there are a few things that you want to keep in mind. For starters, the sweeper isn’t that big so it’ll likely take you a while to clean a big area. Not only that, but it won’t be able to clean corners—the brushes on the side are more for show than anything.
Another thing that’s worth mentioning is that it isn’t all that great at removing pet hair. It does a slightly better job on carpet than hard floors but even then, its performance is average at best. Don’t forget, there’s a chance that the hair will get entangled on the brush as well, which will require you to take them out manually.
The bottom line is, it can clean but its effectiveness will depend on the kind of floor that you have. If anything, don’t go in expecting it to function like a vacuum because that’s definitely not what it is. It doesn’t have any suction power—it all depends on the rolling action of the brush.
Who Would I Recommend the Fuller Brush Sweeper To?
- People who have carpeted floors
- People who live in small condos/apartments/houses
- People who want something small and compact that won’t take up a lot of room
Cost and Pricing Information
The Fuller Brush Carpet and Floor Sweeper sell for $59.99 on Amazon. There are a couple of color variations that cost a little more, however. More specifically, the gold and black versions, which go for $64.99 and $69.99 respectively. The good news is that all of them come with free shipping and free returns.
One great thing about this sweeper is that there aren’t any extras that you have to get. For one thing, there’s no need to use a cleaning solution—everything that you need is already provided for you. Having said that, replacements are available if you need them.
Take the roller brush, for example, if anything happens to yours, you can get a new one from their Amazon shop for $13.99. The only thing is that you’ll have to get that order up to $25 with other items, otherwise, you’ll have to pay for shipping.
The Fuller Brush Carpet and Floor Sweeper is a good option—only if you have carpet. You can use it to remove dust, dirt, and other loose particles. The way it’s designed, however, it doesn’t work all that great for smooth surfaces (e.g. hardwood, vinyl, laminate, etc). On top of that, it’s not that effective for removing animal hair so keep that in mind if you have pets. Depending on how tall you are, you might also find the handle to be a tad short. The unit itself is also smaller than what it looks like in the photos.
