Dupray Neat Steam Cleaner Review

Living in a dirty house can have a major impact on your health. For one thing, you’d be more likely to experience respiratory issues. Take dust and dirt, for example—they can trigger allergies. Germs can also spread, which can make you sick. Considering all that, it only makes sense to keep the house clean. Sure, it’s a bit of work but it’s worth it.

As far as the floor goes, the easiest way to clean is with a mop (assuming that you have hard floors). Trust me, it’s a lot better than trying to wipe everything down with a rag. You just have to dampen the mop head and you’re ready to go! Just make sure to choose the right type for your floors. For example, it’s probably not a good idea to get a steam mop if you have hardwood—the heat and moisture combined can cause the planks to warp.

It’s great for other types of floors, however. As a matter of fact, the mop that we’ll be reviewing today is a steam mop. More specifically, we’ll be taking a look at the Dupray Neat Steam Cleaner. What are the controls like? How durable is it? Is the tank removable? These are some of the things that we’ll be addressing in the post below.

The Dupray Neat Steam Cleaner

Dupray has been around since 2008. Based in Delaware, the company specializes in a variety of steam cleaners. Some are meant to be used around the house whereas others are meant for industrial and commercial purposes. Where can you get their products? From their official website. In addition to that, you can find their cleaners at a number of retailers such as Costco, Amazon, and Walmart.

The Dupray Neat Steam Cleaner is unique in that it doesn’t look like a traditional mop. Instead of there being a long handle, there’s a box-like body and a flexible steam hose. The power cord is also super long so you won’t have to worry about being unable to reach a spot. Did I also mention that it comes on wheels? If anything, that makes it super easy to use and maneuver around the house. What’s more, is that it comes with a bunch of attachment pieces that allow you to clean virtually any surface—from floors to mattresses. All you have to do is snap it on to the front of the hose!

What’s Included

More than a dozen parts are included in the box. Here’s a rundown of everything that you’ll get:

  • 3 Microfiber Mop Pads
  • 1 Rectangular Floor Tool
  • 2 Extension Tubes
  • 1 Window Tool
  • 5 Nylon Brush Heads
  • 1 Brass Bross Brush Head
  • 1 Lance Tool
  • 1 Triangular Tool
  • 1 Addfresh Fragrance Disc

As you can see, the steam cleaner comes with quite a bit of stuff. For the most parts, however, they’re just attachments that you can use with the head.

First things first, let’s talk about the mop pads. As mentioned above, they’re cut from microfiber material. What this means is that they’re soft, absorbent and non-abrasive. This will allow you to use the cleaner on most, if not all hard surfaces. If you want, you can also use a regular cloth. Yup, you don’t have to use the ones that they provide you with. If anything, that’s one of the best things about the system—that is, you don’t have to waste money on buying a specific type of pad.

Where’s the water tank, you ask? It’s built-in. In other words, it’s inside the “box.” If you open it up, the inside is quite big. At maximum capacity, it can hold 1600 ml, which should be enough to clean most areas. Filling it with water is easy as well since it comes with an integrated funnel so you won’t have to worry about spills.

Assembly

As far as assembly goes, all you have to do is put the parts together. It’s not difficult at all—you probably won’t even need to refer to the instruction manual. For those who are wondering about the microfiber pads, those go onto the mop head via velcro. That is, just line them up and stick them together. If you want to add a scent, just put the sample scent disc against the pad.

Build Quality & Review of the Dupray Neat Steam Cleaner

Steam cleaners are not made equal. For example, it’s not uncommon for some to be made from cheaper materials such as plastic. Ideally, you want to get something that’s made from aluminum or another durable metal. That way, you’ll know that they’ll last longer than a few months.

How’s the Dupray Neat Steam Cleaner in terms of quality? It’s up there. For one thing, the inside of the tank is stainless steel, as mentioned earlier. Just that alone makes it worth the money in my opinion. It’s easy to use and you won’t have to worry about it breaking. The only thing that you have to be careful with is the attachment parts as they’re made from plastic. That is, too much force and they can snap, especially the smaller components.

While the microfiber pads are particularly thick, they’re soft and get the job done. Remember, you can always replace the originals with a towel or cloth if you’re not satisfied with how they work. For us, however, they were enough. I can see how someone might want to get more of them, though—the three that they provide you with probably won’t be enough if you have a large house to clean!

Some Possible Issues with the Dupray Neat Steam Cleaner

The steam cleaner does have a few disadvantages. We’ll be going over some of them below so that you can get a better idea of what the device is like.

1. The System Gets Hot!

The system has a tendency of getting hot after a while so you want to be careful when you’re using the handle (fortunately, the heat is manageable). You also want to let the tank cool down (for approx. 20 minutes) before opening the valve and turning it upside down to drain the water out.

2. No Water Level Indicator

The tank is a good size but there’s no way to tell how much water is left once you’ve started to clean. The only way would be to open up the valve, which isn’t practical. According to the manual, one full tank lasts approximately 50 minutes so you can perhaps base your cleaning around that.

3. It Can Drip Water

It’s a good idea to keep a towel on hand because chances are, the unit will drip here and there. It’s hard to tell exactly where the water is coming from, however—it’s either from the end of the attachments or from the condensation. Fortunately, it’s just a small amount so it’s easy to take care of.

4. You Have to Warm It Up

The unit takes a little while to warm up—approximately 10 minutes. So it might not be the thing to use if you’re in a rush. But once you get it going, it’s a powerful machine.

5. Lock Button Can Be Touchy

There’s a lock button on the machine that lets you keep the steam on continuously. Unfortunately, however, it’s a little touchy. If you put any sort of pressure on the handle, there’s a high chance that the button will release. It’s not a major issue per se, but it can be annoying.

6. The Nylon Brush Attachments Aren’t the Best

The steam cleaner comes with five nylon bristle brushes that you can use for certain messes. Unfortunately, however, they’re not that durable; they can and will melt in the heat. The good news is that you get one metal brush so you can use that instead for the grout.

7. Cord Storage is on the Bottom of the Unit

The cord storage is on the bottom of the cleaner—this makes it somewhat inconvenient to use. Personally, I would have preferred if the cord came with a retractable system.

Does It Clean Well?

The Dupray Steam Cleaner is a powerful machine. The steam that comes out is piping hot and will be enough to get rid of most messes including dirt and caked-on food. Not to mention that it’ll remove odors as well. If you want, you can also use it to spot clean carpet stains. If anything, it’s much easier than using soap and water. The only thing is that some attachments work better than others so you’ll have to try and see what works for you.

The microfiber pads that it comes with are also great at lifting dirt and grime from the floor. Many people have also had success with pet hair. It might not be the best option for wiping up large spills given the fact that the unit itself is wet, but you can definitely use it to sanitize the area afterward. Given its compact size, we highly recommend it for those who live in apartments, condos, and houses!

Cost and Pricing Information for the Dupray Neat Steam Cleaner

The Dupray Neat Steam Cleaner is a little pricier than other steam mops at around $150. Then again, it also comes with more attachment parts. Considering that, you kind of get your money’s worth. It also comes with free shipping on Amazon so you don’t have to pay anything extra to get it delivered to your front door.

Once you’ve got the system, there isn’t much that you need to get. After all, you can use pretty much any type of cloth with the cleaner—you’re not tied down to a specific type. You don’t need any special cleaner either as it just uses steam. All you need is water, which you can get from the tap.

Note: For those who are interested, you can get a separate bag of cleaning tools which includes the microfiber cloths, bonnets, and a variety of brushes—including ones made from horsehair. It’s a little expensive, however, at $79.

Our Take
The Dupray Neat Steam Cleaner is an excellent system for those who’re looking for something lightweight and compact. Despite its size, it packs plenty of power. If anything, the steam will be enough to get rid of most messes, including caked-on food. The best part is that it comes with over a dozen attachment parts. They might not be the most durable, but they get the job done. Other drawbacks include the fact that there’s no water level indicator and that you have to warm it up, which takes approx. 10 minutes. If you don’t mind that, however, it’s a good steam cleaner to have.
