Product Description
The Bissell Spinwave Pet Hard Floor Spin Mop is a powerful cleaning tool that’s designed for homes with pets. Safe to use on most hard floors, it comes with a spray trigger that allows you to control the amount of solution that will go on the floor while cleaning. There are two types of mop pads that you can use with it as well and both are reusable.
What’s In the Box?
Here’s what comes with the Bissell SpinWave Pet Spin Mop:
- 1 Spin Mop
- 2 Soft-Touch Mop Pads
- 2 Scrubby Mop Pads
- 2 Bottles of Bissell Multi-Surface Pet Formula
Assembly: The Bissell SpinWave comes as two easy-to-assemble components. Basically, all you have to do is insert the handle into the body of the unit (it will click in place). Once you’ve done that, you can attach a mop pad. To do that, fold the pad in half and line up the small dot in the center with the middle screw on the bottom of the foot; the edge of the pad should be lined up with the inner ring.
The spin mop itself is pretty self-explanatory. The digital controls are at the top near the handle and the power spin pads are at the bottom, below the spray nozzle. As for the water tank, it’s located at the center of the unit. To remove it from the machine, lift it straight up; you can then fill it at the sink. More specifically, you want to fill the tank with warm water up to the first water fill line and cleaning formula to the second fill line.
And as listed above, it comes with four washable mop pads, two scrubby ones, and two soft-touch ones. The latter is meant for tough, sticky pet messes while the former is for gentle cleaning.
Last but not least, the SpinWave comes with two trial-size bottles of Bissell Multi-Surface Pet Formula, which is specifically formulated for pet messes and odors across hard floors (it’s not recommended that you use other cleaners as it may harm the machine and void the warranty).
Build Quality
Some mops are flimsier than others. That’s why we recommend checking the product out in person before making a purchase. That way, you’ll be able to get a feel for what the actual material is like. Take the pole, for example, those made of aluminum or stainless steel are typically longer-lasting.
How well built is the SpinWave Pet? It’s decent. For one thing, the pole is made of metal. The plastic material used for the rest of the unit is also a decent thickness. As for the pads, they are soft and have good absorbency, which makes ideal for use with the cleaner. Not only that, but the material appears durable and should hold up well in the wash. Just don’t throw them in the dryer!
Pros of the SpinWave Pet
- Comes with a 2-year limited warranty so if anything happens, you can always send it back
- The mop pads are reusable so you won’t have to constantly buy refills
- It’s self-propelling so all you really have to do is guide it as it moves across the floor (this makes it better for your back)
- The on-demand spray works well
- It’s very quiet and does not make a lot of noise
- The water tank is a decent size so you won’t have to keep refilling it
- Comes with some cleaning solution to get you started
A Few Drawbacks
Here are a few issues that people have experienced with the SpinWave Pet Hard Floor Spin Mop.
Short Cord
The cord is short so you’ll have to constantly plug and re-plug it as you move around the house. At the same time, you also have to make sure that it won’t get in the way when you’re mopping.
Not Great For Deep Cleaning
This machine doesn’t really scrub or deep clean. Take grout lines, for example, it’ll spin right over it aka it won’t get rid of the grime. It also won’t be enough if you have something stuck to the floor. In other words, get something else if you want to deep clean the house.
Not Very Compact
The SpinWave Pet isn’t very compact. In fact, it can be quite heavy, especially if the water tank is filled up. Depending on what you’re used to, you might find it to be hard to maneuver. Also, it can be tricky lugging it up the stairs.
Doesn’t Clean Corners
The mop pads are round so you won’t be able to get into the corners. Also, the size of the head prevents it from getting into tight spaces.
Possible Leaks
Some people have had issues with the water bottle leaking. The good news is that they’re usually small leaks (i.e. a few drips here and there). For this reason, we recommend that you keep the bottle out of the mop when you’re storing it.
It Can Leave a Filmy Residue
The spin mop and cleaner can leave a bit of residue on some types of floors. Fortunately, they can be cleaned off—it just takes a bit of extra work.
Must Use a Bissell Cleaner
You have to use the spin mop with Bissell cleaning solution. Other formulas can harm the machine and void the warranty. In other words, you’ll be stuck having to buy their expensive refills.
Hard to Fit Under Furniture
The base itself is a little bulky, which makes it hard to fit under furniture. For example, you probably won’t be able to fit it underneath cabinets, sofas, etc. Not only that, but it’s hard to get the mop around certain things such as the toilet.
Does It Clean Well?
The SpinWave Pet Spin Mop is best used for light cleaning in-between actual cleanings. While it’ll get rid of dust and other small debris (vacuuming beforehand also helps, especially if you have pets), it won’t be enough to remove sticky messes. Similarly, you won’t be able to use it to clean your grout lines. Also, it’s not the best thing to use as far as corners go due to its round design. It can also be hard to fit behind and under things like furniture.
Who Would We Recommend It To?
- People who are not looking for a deep cleaning machine
- People who live in bigger spaces (the machine is a little bulky and can take up a bit of space)
- People who are okay with having to plug and replug the spin mop while cleaning
Pricing and Cost Information
The Bissell SpinWave Pet Hard Floor Spin Mop costs around $100 so it’s not the cheapest spin mop that you can get; there are some more affordable options out there (for example, you can get the Ogori electric mop for about $70). Keep in mind, however, that it does come with more pads and also two bottles of trial-sized cleaning formula.
And as expected from Bissell, refills are pretty easy to find. The only thing is that they can be pricey. Take their mop pads, for example, a pack of two will cost you about $24. As for their cleaning solution, you’re looking at about $15 for a bottle (remember, it’s not recommended that you use other cleaners).
