Bissell SpinWave Cordless PET Hard Floor Spin Mop Review

Keeping the house clean can be a challenge when you have pets. For one thing, they can track dirt into the home via their paws. Not only that, but their fur can get everywhere (I’m sure most pet owners agree)! That’s why it’s so important to clean regularly—it’ll prevent things from building up on the floor.

For starters, it’s highly recommended that you vacuum the house at least once a week. That way, you won’t have to worry about dirt and other particles, which can potentially damage your floor.

Mopping is important as well. If anything, it’s the only way that you can really clean the floor. Not a fan of the ol’ mop and bucket system? You can always get something electronic that will “do” the cleaning for you. Take the Bissell SpinWave Pet Spin Mop, for example, it’s designed so that the pads will spin as you push the mop. In other words, you won’t have to tire yourself out cleaning the floor.

How well does it work? Does it come with any attachments or accessories? What about drawbacks—does it have any? Find out by reading our review!

The Bissell SpinWave Cordless PET Hard Floor Spin Mop

Bissell is a family-owned company that specializes in home cleaning products. Aside from spin mops, they also sell vacuum cleaners, steam cleaners, carpet cleaners, brooms, air purifiers, and more. And for those who are interested, you can find their products on their official website. Or if you want, you can get them from a retailer such as Bestbuy, Walmart, or Amazon.

Product Description

The Bissell SpinWave Cordless Hard Floor Spin Mop is a cordless machine that’s designed for cleaning sealed hard floors such as hardwood, tile, and linoleum. Equipped with an 18V lithium-ion battery, it can be used for up to 20 minutes each time. Also, it comes with an on-demand spray that you can use to dispense solution onto the floor. As if that wasn’t great enough, it also comes with two types of pads, one for dry cleaning and one for wet cleaning so you have both to work with.

What Does It Come With?

Here’s a breakdown of what you’ll get with the Bissell SpinWave Cordless PET Hard Floor Spin Mop:

  • 1 Main Body
  • 1 Handle
  • 4 Mop Pads
  • 1 Charging Adapter Plug
  • 1 Storage Tray
  • 2 Bottles of Bissell Multi-Surface Formula

Assembly: Insert the handle into the body of the unit until you hear a click. Once you’ve done that, you can charge the battery. Make sure that the mop is off before you insert the charging adapter plug into the port on the back. And on the first use, you’ll want to make sure that the unit is fully charged (~4 hours) beforehand. You can tell by the status lights on the front—all three of them will be illuminated when the mop is fully charged.

The body of the unit consists of several parts including the water tank, which is removable for easy refilling. And on the bottom, is the spray nozzle and spin pads, the latter of which you’ll have to manually attach to the base.

As for the handle, that’s where the digital controls are. And on the back is the trigger, which you can press to dispense the cleaning solution.

Next, you’ve got the circular mop pads, which go on the bottom of the foot. As we mentioned earlier, there are two types—that is, it comes with a pair of soft-touch pads (for everyday cleaning) and a pair of scrubby pads (for tough, sticky messes). To attach them, all you have to do is line up the small dot in the center with the middle screw on the bottom of the mop; the hook and loop material will keep them secure.

And for charging, it comes with an adapter plug and a storage tray, the latter of which will keep the mop secure on the ground.

Last but not least, the cordless spin mop comes with two bottles of Bissell Multi-Surface formula, which can be used on various types of surfaces.

Build Quality

When it comes to spin mops (and all other mops, really), build quality is super important. You want to make sure that whatever you get is durable so that it won’t break after its second use. And generally speaking, that means getting something with a metal pole (plastic poles tend to crack easily). Also, you want to pay attention to the plastic material. Does it seem flimsy? If so, it’s probably better to look at something else. The last thing that you want is to get something that won’t be able to hold up to rigorous use.

Quality of the Bissell SpinWave Cordless PET Spin Mop

This particular spin mop comes with a metal pole so you won’t have to worry about it snapping like its plastic counterparts. Also, the plastic material used for the body is relatively thick and the same thing goes for the water bottle.

Similarly, the mop pads, both the soft and scrubby ones are made of a decent material. Reusable, they can be thrown in the washing machine or washed by hand after each use (don’t put them in the dryer, though, or else they might shrink).

Pros of the Bissell Spinwave Cordless PET Spin Mop

  • Easy to manuever as long as you’re not cleaning an edge
  • Water tank is removable for easy refilling
  • Sprayer works well
  • Machine is fairly lightweight and compact

A Few Drawbacks

There are a few common issues with the Bissell SpinWave Cordless PET Spin Mop, which we’ll be talking about below.

Battery Doesn’t Last Very Long

Like most cordless mops, the charge doesn’t last very long. You’re looking at around 15-20 minutes of runtime per charge, which may or may not be enough for you to clean an entire room. We recommend getting the corded version instead if you want something that’s more efficient.

Not That Great For Corners

The mop isn’t that great at cleaning corners due to the shape of the pads (remember, they’re circular). So you will have to use something else to get those areas.

Not Ideal For Deep Cleaning

This spin mop will buff away footprints, dirt stains, etc, but don’t expect it to get rid of any sticky, caked-on messes. If anything, the mop pads will only remove what’s on the surface of the floor (even when used with a cleaner).

There’s Only One Setting

This spin mop only has one setting. In other words, you won’t be able to adjust the speed, which is another reason why it’s not that great at removing built up gunk.

Handle Isn’t Very Secure

The handle isn’t very very secure in that it tends to detach from the base when you’re pulling it backwards toward you. As you can imagine, that can be quite frustrating when you’re trying to mop the house.

It Can Be Hard to Control

The spin mop is self-propelling and can be a little hard to control sometimes, especially when you get too close to an edge (it tends to bounce all over the place).

You’ll Have to Change the Pads Often

Extra pads are highly recommended as they tend to get dirty quickly. That way, you can just swap out the dirty ones and continue cleaning (you can always rinse them at the sink but that’s a hassle in itself). Avoid mopping with a dirty pad as it’ll leave marks on the floor.

How Well Does It Clean?

The Bissell Spinwave Cordless PET Spin Mop is decent for everyday cleaning. Pair it with an appropriate cleaner and it will leave your floors clean. The only thing is that it’s not great for sticky messes. The same thing goes for spills—you’ll want to wipe it with a rag first before going over it with the mop.

Tip: Make sure to vacuum the room first, otherwise it’ll send dirt and particles flying everywhere.

And as far as floor types go, it works well on sealed hardwood, linoleum, and vinyl. You can also use it to clean tile floors, however, it will not be able to clean the grout lines.

Cost and Pricing Information

The Bissell SpinWave Cordless PET Hard Floor Spin Mop retails for $149.99, making it $50 more expensive than their corded model. Shipping, however, is free if you purchase it online so you won’t have to pay anything extra. The same thing goes for returns—you’ll get your money back as long as you send it back within the 30-day window.

Keep in mind, however, that refills can be pricey—both for their mop pads and cleaner. For example, it’ll cost you about $15 for a bottle of cleaning solution.

Our Take
The Bissell SpinWave Cordless PET Hard Floor Spin Mop is a decent machine for everyday cleaning. And it comes with four pads and two bottles of cleaning solution so you’ll be able to use it right away. Like all cordless mops, however, the battery life isn’t the best (one charge will give you 15-20 minutes of runtime). Not only that, but it won't be enough to get rid of sticky messes. Also, due to the circular design of the pads, it isn’t the best for edges and corners.
