The Bissell PowerFresh Slim Hard Wood Floor Steam Cleaner
Bissell is a well-known brand that’s known for their cleaning products. Aside from steam cleaners, they also manufacture mops, brooms, carpet cleaners, stick vacuums, and more. And as expected from such a big company, their products are available at most retailers including Best Buy, Target, Home Depot, and Walmart. Of course, you can also purchase them online through Amazon or their official website.
Product Description
The Bissell PowerFresh Steam Cleaner is a 2-in-1 machine that you can use to clean multiple areas of your home. Not only is it great for the floor, but you can also use the handheld cleaner for grout lines, sinks, showerheads, etc. And it even comes with a 25-feet power cord so that you can easily reach those difficult areas. Plus, there’s an onboard storage kit for all your tools. In other words, you won’t have to worry about losing any of them!
What’s In the Box?
Here’s what you’ll get with the Bissell PowerFresh Hard Floor Steam Cleaner:
- 1 Handheld Pod
- 1 Mop Pad Foot
- 1 Extension Wand
- 1 Tool Box With Tools
- 1 Wall Mount With Screws
- 2 Mop Pads
- 1 Water Cup
Assembly: Attach the extension wand to the mop pad foot—it should snap in place. Next, insert the handheld pod to the top of the wand. From there, attach the tool box to the pod by aligning the clip on the backside of the box to the opening on the bottom.
The handheld pot is the “handheld unit” part of the device. And it’s also where the water tank is located. To fill it up, pull the cap open. You can then add water with the provided water cup. For the best results, use distilled or demineralized water.
Then there’s the mop pad foot, which you’ll be using to mop the floor. The top attaches to the extension wand while the bottom attaches to a mop pad. To attach the cloth, wrap it around the bottom with the grey stitching at the front. Speaking of mop pads, the steam cleaner comes with two types—a white one for everyday cleaning and a scrubby one for those tough, sticky messes (they go on the base the same way).
Next, you’ve got your accessories, which are located inside a toolbox. More specifically, it comes with a flat scraper tool, bristle scrub brush, grout tool, and angle tool, all of which you can use with the handheld cleaner.
Finally, there’s the wall mount (screws included) that you can use to store the steam cleaner.
Build Quality
The Bissell PowerFresh Steam Cleaner System comes with a metal extension tube. The handheld pod and mop pad foot, however, are made of plastic, which is pretty typical for these types of devices. The same goes for the tools. If anything, they’re quite flimsy so don’t be surprised if they end up breaking on you after a few uses.
As for the mop pads, they’re made of a microfiber material and are machine washable. And for those who are wondering, they do hold up well in the wash as long as you don’t throw them in the dryer.
Pros of the Bissell PowerFresh Steam Cleaner
Easy to Maneuver: The mop head itself is very maneuverable and can easily fit behind furniture and into corners. The fact that you can use it as a hand steamer by detaching the long hose also makes it convenient to clean and sanitize different surfaces.
Very Versatile: The steam cleaner is extremely versatile in that you can use it as a floor mop or as a handheld unit. The accessories also come in handy when you’re trying to clean different things.
Long Cord: It comes with a very long cord so you can clean without having to constantly plug and re-plug the mop (it’s long enoughs o that you can easily travel through rooms and hallways without having to unplug the device).
Great For Grout Lines: The steam cleaner works wonders when it comes to cleaning the grout—you won’t have to scrub or anything! You will, however, have to use the grout attachment.
Heats Up Quickly: The machine heats up quickly so you won’t have to wait around for it to be ready.
A Few Drawbacks
Now, you’re probably wondering, “what are some of its drawbacks?” Well, that’s what we’ll be discussing in this section.
The Handle Is Heavy
The handle is quite heavy, which isn’t surprising seeing as how everything is pretty much located inside including the water tank, tool storage, and motor. For this reason, we wouldn’t recommend it to anyone with hand or wrist issues.
No Cord Storage
There’s nowhere to store the cord with this particular model. In other words, you’ll either have to hold it in your hand or deal with a tangled mess on the floor while you’re using it. (There’s a velcro strip that you can use to hold the cord together but that’s pretty much it).
You Have to Squeeze the Trigger For Steam to Come Out
You have to continuously squeeze the trigger to produce steam (it doesn’t lock in place). As soon as you let go, the steam will shut off. As you can imagine, this can get quite tiring, especially with how heavy the handheld pod is.
It Doesn’t Stand On Its Own
The steam cleaner doesn’t stand on its own. You’ll have to install the wall mount and hang it using that. Unfortunately, that does require drilling holes into the wall, which not everyone might be comfortable with.
Attachments Are Cheap
Don’t expect the attachments to last very long. If anything, they’re quite cheap. For example, it’s not uncommon for the bristles to melt off the brushes from the steam, which would render it useless.
Small Water Tank
The water tank isn’t very big, which makes sense seeing as how it’s part of the handheld pod. As a result, you will have to refill it often.
Steam Power Could Be Better
The machine doesn’t really put out that much steam (enough to clean the floor but not enough to clean sinks, stovetops, grout lines, etc). In fact, many people have found the output lacking.
How Well Does It Clean?
Overall, it’s a good steamer. It produces a good amount of steam and the pressure is high enough so that you can use it to get rid of grime and gunk, including those on grout lines. The handheld pod/attachments also make it easy to clean and sanitize different surfaces. Like we said earlier, though, it is on the heavier side and you will have to hold the trigger button for the steam to come out. If anything, that’s the main drawback.
Who Would We Recommend It To?
- Those who are looking for a floor mop/ handheld steamer
- Those who are okay with using something a little heavier
- Those who want to be able to clean without having to change plugs constantly
Cost and Pricing Information
The Bissell PowerFresh Steam Cleaner System retails for $149.99, which makes it one of their more expensive models. This makes sense, though, seeing as how it’s a floor mop and handheld steamer all-in-one.
And the great thing about using a steam cleaner is that you won’t have to buy a cleaner—you can just use water. With that said, you’ll probably have to get some extra mop pads sometime down the line (you can either get it from Bissell or a third party brand).
